Danielle Nicolet who played Reese in the Stargate SG1 episode “Menace” is in an upcoming new sitcom called “The Family Tools” on the ABC network, also stars Kyle Bornheimer, JK Simmons and Edi Gathegin and is based on a British show.
A decimated Jaffa contingent is discovered and the carnage indicates an enemy new to the SGC, Tealc and Bratac are then surprised by a “super soldier” clad in energy damning armour and equipped with heavy weaponry, lucky for them it’s already been pushed during the initial battle and can not maintain it’s own life force under another round of combat. Investigation into the creature indicates a next generation approach to the technology which underpins the Sarcopheagus which in turn indicates Anubis is taking steps to free himself of the reliance on Jaffa to be his army and their increasing rebellious nature.
Evolution Part 1 is the first of a mid-season two parter in which Anubis and the super soldier play a major part occuping Sam, Jack and Teal’c while Daniel and Dr Lee have adventure south of the border dealing with the consequences of tracking down the remnants of a former Goa’uld who ruled over the long gone Mayan culture and who may have been the genesis of the foutain of youth myth. Two very good stories the first with some excellent action sequences and the second far more dramtic and tense, a good combination if done correctly and while giving nothing away it’s kept up in the next episode. It’s great to see Dr Lee getting out and about again as he provides both humour and competnence in one package, not unusual in Stargate scientists but it is reserved more for regular cast members.
The conlusion to the episode mixes the cliffhanger styles giving us two for the price of one and again that pays off, if the assault on the homeworld of the super soldiers doesn’t get you going then Jack reverting to his earlier career and going to the rescue of Daniel should do the trick. We had some feedback this week from Colin and Michael, much appreciated as always and lots of chat on the Facebook page and some action over on G+ and Twitter. The promo this week is from the Flash Pulp Podcast and next week no surprise we will be covering Evolution II.

Fifteen years ago tonight the US pay television broadcaster Showtime did the world a huge favour by premièring it’s new serialised scifi series Stargate SG1 to it’s pay audience. I suspect back then this was quite a significant step for the subscription service which underlines how good a product Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner put together not to mention strengthened by the work of Rob C Cooper, Peter DeLuise and many many other “heroes” of the show:)
“Sunday’s two-hour premiere episode of the MGM Worldwide TV Group series “Stargate SG-1” generated for Showtime’s highest-ever ratings for a series premiere and ranks as the highest-rated original movie to premiere on Showtime in 3-1/2 years, according to the network.
It was learned through Nielsen that “Stargate” on Sunday tallied a healthy 10.5 rating in Showtime’s approximately 12 million U.S. households, or just shy of 1.5 million homes in total.“

SG1 visit an alien world for a meeting with a Jaffa resistance leader but they come under attack from the loyal followers of the local system lord Moloc, help from a surprising source rescues SG1 and a new ally is revealed and it’s not one they expected.
An all female Jaffa community made up of the priestesses and rescued women of the system lord Moloc stage hit and run attacks to aquire symbiotes to give life to the female children as they enter puberty. Faced with such a revelation SG1 offer the drug tritonin to the women and four volunteer to test the drug in the hopes of freeing themselves from dependency on the symbiotes. Teal’c meanwhile develops an emotional bond with Ishta the leader of this community as both have lost their mates and through this bond he convinces Ishta after the death of one of the test subjects to continue with the Tritonin.
Birthright was written by Christopher Judge as as you would imagine is very Teal’c centric and of course the part of Ishta was penned for Jolene Blalock, let that be a lesson to everyone if you want something then maybe doing it yourself is the way to go:)
The episode itself looks great with a lot of location work in and around the village of the Jaffa women and this one episode has perhaps the most graphic demonstration of how well staff weapons can be used. The use of Tritonin is a logical next step to replace the symbiote but the concerns made within the episode in regards to being dependent upon the Earth and/or Tokra for the drug are valid, the Jaffa need to produce the drug themselves and even then something so basic would be ripe for exploitation.
It’s good to see Teal’c getting back into the game and with someone very close to his skills in terms of combat as well as shouldering the responsibilites of command something which he has to deal with when leading the “free” Jaffa.
This weeks promo is from Pulp Audio Weekly and next week we cover the first episode of the two parter “Evolution” as Anubis makes a fresh move in the war between him and well everyone. Many thanks for the feedback this week and once again still working on itunes and a few other changes, details as and when.

Welcome to the The Gatecast Stargate SG1 season 6 wrap up show in which Alan and Mike and special guest Colin (Trek News & Views host) talk about the sixth season, the good the bad and the cheesy. The results of our season 6 poll will be included as Stargate fans grade the episodes and lets not forget the Indeed count.
Huge thanks for all the feedback over this last season of The Gatecast, Facebook has been a excellent resource but perhaps Twitter has provided the biggest exposure boost even though it’s not ideal for anything other than immediate feedback. We included three promos in this weeks show and a big thanks to all those involved in Tuning Into Scifi Tv, The Scifi Diner and Trek News & View and of course everyone else who released promos for their podcasts and big thanks to those podcasts that have played ours:)
Next week we start on the seventh season of Stargate SG1 with Fallen and the return of a familiar character.

Our traditional poll for the favourite episode of the current season of SG1 we are discussing is now live, it will run until we record the sixth season wrap up show and the results used to fuel our banter. If anyone fancies spending a couple of hours with us on skype talking season 6 in a friendly and hopefully informative manner then get in touch, we are few weeks away from recording so plenty of time to schedule a date/time.

Two Stargate alumni celebrate their birthdays today (22nd).
From SG1 we have Michael Kopsa who played two roles in the show the first as a news anchor in the episode “There But For The Grace Of God” and then General Kerrigan in “Proving Ground” and “Prodigy”.
We then have Jennifer Spence who played Dr Lisa Park in 36 of the 40 episodes of Stargate Universe.
So the SGC finally have control of a Hatak and they lend it to those wonderful guys the Tokra as part of relocation process with which to provide them with a permanent base. Of course things go wrong because that Tanith is a sneaky so and so and news gets so Apophis is on his way and with his super ship he could level the planet. A hail mary strategy is proposed which basically uses the desire of Apophis to well show off his fleet in one place and with the aid of the stargate and the sun a surprise present is offered.
Exodus is a cracking season finale, very heavy on CGI but beautifully done yet the story is not forgotten about, it’s a good scifi idea and provides the show with it’s cliffhanger which some people enjoy and some don’t.
As always it’s good to see Jacob back and of course Tanith has made a huge impact in his short time on the show and the events gives each of our main cast an opportunity to offer some well written dialogue although Jack and Teal’c are the more action orientated pair.
Exodus is a most satisfying conclusion to what has turned out to be a very stong fourth season and leaves us hanging yet not in any real doubt over the future of the main characters.

SG1 are captured on a mission to the planet Juna by minions of Cronus but all is not as it seems but things start to become clear when one of them is threatened with execution and the SGC get an unexpected visitor someone Jack is not overly joyed to meet again. Naturally a rescue operation is mounted from the SGC with some reservations and on a tight schedule, the prisoners will be dead within the day even without Cronus himself getting his mits on them something he would really enjoy.
This sort of episode is something SG1 does very well in terms of bringing back a character and story that’s not directly arc related but has proven to be popular with the fans. In this case Harlan and the alternate SG1 from Tin Man need help as they have been on missions doing pretty much the same as the sanctioned SG1 which is not surprising, they are to all intents and purposes the same.
What is interesting is that we see the aftermath of a SGC lead revolt on the planet Juna which left the people open to conquest by Cronus, just because Juna had no real resources the Goauld wanted didn’t mean the world was of no interest in terms of the galactic power struggle or as a simple source of subjects for a System Lord. The episode has lots of action, some good humour and is a technical achievement with the amount of multiple characters on screen despite the limitations and cost of the technology at the time. It’s also a milestone in Michael Shanks career as he directs his first SG1 episode, nothing like jumping in at the deep end, there were technically simpler episodes this season:)

The SGC send a MALP to a world believed to be linked closely to the Ancients but once it arrives the device is taken over and seems to fly towards it’s destruction. During this transit data is flowing back into the SGC computers and then all hell breaks loose as an entity makes itself known within the very infrastructure of the bases electronic heart. Entity is pretty much a standalone episode almost a bottle episode which relies on the existing sets and regular cast, not always a bad thing but in this case not the best episode of the season despite some excellent cinematography using a HD video cam system for the first time.
Now if you haven’t seen this episode give it a go, it’s not bad just not that original since it seems some basic stories are done by every genre series at some point and it’s SG1’s turn to do the possessed technological entity routine with all the implications to the host and their friends that brings.

Sam returns to the Air Force Academy and discovers a young cadet who may at this age be smarter than Carter was in her day but there is an attitude problem which Sam convinces the General to let her adjust. Meanwhile a run of the mill baby sitting operation for Jack and Teal’c turns into a life and death struggle once Sam and her protegee turn up, the two are not directly related but they boys were doing fine:)
Fun and hi-jinks ensue.
This is the first episode for Jennifer Hailey the very smart young woman who Sam takes under her wing including being introduced to the SGC something quite unusual even though it’s obvious there are dozens of personnel who are not much older. Jennifer is played by Elisabeth Rosen and while on the subject this is also the first appearance for Dr Bill Lee played by Bill Dow. A rather surprising addition to this episode is a cameo from General Ryan a real honest to god member of the Joint Chiefs.
Prodigy is a good episode, we’ve got some good new characters and actors portraying them and the two plots merge smoothly bring three of SG1 together for the final confrontation with an alien species one which the humans were more than likely responsible for.

A routine mission takes a twist with the death of a member of SG5 and Daniel seems to suffer a mental breakdown after being on the mission with that unit. SG1 investigate and they too come under the influence of a Goa’uld device and their only hope is a young boy who has been living onto this world alone for many years.

Well that’s not a long synopsis is it?
.
This episode from a production side is excellent, the set design and visual effects are some of the best we’ve seen and the acting from Kristian is excellent and it has to be since there are some long scenes while totally rely on his role. That said the overall episode is fairly weak although it doesn’t help season 4 has been pretty strong so this standalone was already up against it which is a shame since you can see the quality and effort on screen more so than some other episodes this season.

A young boy mysteriously arrives on Abydos and claims to be the Harcesis the child born to Apophis and Share who Daniel had been searching for since the death of his wife and his meeting with Oma Desala. Convinced that they can use the boys genetic knowledge of the Goa’uld to help in the fight Daniel tries to recruit the boy and to convince Daniel that no good can come of having the knowledge of the system lords linked as it is with millennia of evil he allows Daniel to catch a glimpse of what the results could be.
Absolute Power is pretty much a underlining full stop to the long running arc of Daniels search for his wife and everything that spiralled out from that although Oma Desala will continue to play a part in future stories but this part of Daniels quest is over. As before they wrote the character of a being (Shifu) with incredible knowledge and awareness mixed with the buddist/zen approach very well and it entertainingly clashes with the Earth human and even Tok’ra view points.
Absolute Power felt like a big episode, multiple locations and some nice sets coupled with familiar guest stars and a quite large supporting cast and no doubt the story had a lot of depth which certainly came across well. We have returning characters in the form of General Vidrine, the Tok’ra Aldwin and good old Kasuf with a nice bunch of evil minions (Yee Jee Tso, Jenn Forgie and Barbara Fixx) and even a real news reporter (Coleen Christie).

A look into the future of the Earth under a seemingly successful alliance with an advanced culture who helped us to defeat the Goauld and cure the planets and peoples ills. One might say it’s a paradise with life, love and liberty prospering for all but is that just the thin veneer hiding plans within plans. Well it would be a boring episode if it wasn’t and as we find the Aschen who had been contacted 10 years previously by SG1 are prepared to invest decades nay centuries in a long term plan to conquer a world.
2010 is a slight twist on the usual time travel stories favoured by the franchise as we see the world as it is thanks to one specific and critical event but the results were not expected and that leaves our heroes looking to retroactively change the past to give themselves and everyone else a new future. Of course it’s hard to argue against saving the human race and kudos to Brad Wright for making the stakes so high there is never a question that SG1 are doing the right thing.
Oh and Samantha is happily married, yes a guy survives the courtship:)
