The episode The Enemy Within was requested by a supporter of Charles’s work so we owe thanks to both of them:)
General Hammond takes command of the Prometheus on a mission to Pegasus to discover the fate of the Atlantis expedition who have now been out of contact far longer than they would have preferred. Hammond overrides Jack’s objections and takes Daniel and Walter on the mission and before they even leave the Milky Way galaxy they find two damaged Gouald ships. It is of course a trap and the Prometheus is taken over by a single Kull warrior with the crew stranded on the damaged ships as the Prometheus with Daniel on board flies away. The mystery is revealed when the warrior turns out to be a young woman named Vala Mal Doran who is stealing the ship to help her people but a now imprisoned Daniel soon learns that Vala says a lot of things that are not entirely true. Prometheus Unbound is a wonderful episode, it was initially designed as a bottle show to save some money using a small cast and the standing sets but the production was getting such good results extra money was provided to create the CGI which really added the icing to the story. The introduction of Vala and the casting of Claudia Black was inspired even if she had just been a one off character but we know she returns to work her wicked ways on Daniel and later to grace the SGC.
Once again it was great to see Don S. Davis return as Hammond and yes again as a guest star he seems to be getting better roles which allows him to push his character, great chemistry as always. Huge praise to Claudia who only worked on the episode for three days (flew from Australia) who grabbed the role and made it her own including adding her own little touches and while Novak ( Ellie Harvie ) seemed a strange role it all worked out ok.
Jeff joined us for this weeks show and I think we all had a good time with a great episode, next week we are going to be covering the Stargate Atlantis episode Hot Zone so we hope you join us for that and if possible send us some feedback. We got a little from our Facebook group this week as well as an itunes review from our friend Michael Clark the host of the Star Trek podcasts The Holodeck and Ten Forward. This weeks promo is from Pulp Audio Weekly which is a bunch of guys talking geek about games, movies, tv and many other things with a lot of humour, they recently had a 3 part Game of Thrones tv retrospective.

It was great to see Alessandro Juliani back on the small screen last night in a decent guest role in “Framed” the April 4th episode of Motive. He played a gallery owner (Serge Bisson) who was neither the victim or the killer of this story but for a small role he looked good and gave a nice performance.
Alessandro is perhaps best known for playing Felix Gaeta in Battlestar Galactica but he also guest starred in the Stargate SG1 episode “Scorched Earth” and “Moebius 1&2” as well as a recurring role on Smallville.
A very happy birthday on the 29th of March to Marina Sirtis who was Counsellor Troi on Star Trek TNG and also Enterprise/Voyager plus the theatrical Trek features. She also guest starred in the Stargate SG1 episode Watergate as Dr. Svetlana Markov and has just been cast as the new head of Mossad in NCIS.

I’ve played a little of the game during my lunch break at work on the ipad and allowing for the touch screen and not being a youngster I’ve enjoyed it. Here are a few screenshots taken early on in the first episode of this multipart story.
The first instalment of the new Stargate SG1 action/adventure game is due in March from MGM and Arkalis Interactive. Once again it’s aimed at the tablet market and will include the original actors providing the voice work for some pretty decent graphics.
After the MALP makes contact with a people from the industrial world Tegalus the three member SG1 pays them a visit and discovers a society that has two powerful cultures in a cold war state with a wild card religious element who believe the Gods of the Stargate seeded their world and will return. The dominoes start falling as this cult gains power and influence and provokes a global war and Daniel badly injured gets stuck on the planet.
First off this is a beautiful looking episode, the locations look stunning and are shot with a warmth we don’t normally see when trudging through the various heavily forested worlds that are so common in the galaxy.
The bunkers and underground tunnels look good with the control room mixing an old school WW2 look with a dash of sophistication and hats off to the pyro, stunt and weapons specialists who really knocked it out of the park.
The overall story though doesn’t quite live up to the production, it’s a little simplistic but I guess they only have 42 minutes so they have to cover a lot of ground to make it all work. The idea that a visit from a SG unit results in millions dead simply through cultural contamination is certainly worth telling. In most episodes it’s normal for events to happen on a smaller scale and of those many would be considered beneficial by the peoples the SGC visit. This isn’t the case here and even though we don’t see the long term rebuilding or maybe years of digging out the zealots we do know this world will never be the same and maybe ripe for the appearance of another quasi-religious group and power play.
This weeks promo is from Hexed a tv discussion and review podcast focusing on genre television, well worth checking out.
Next week we are going back to Atlantis for the episode Suspicion as the Wraith seemingly turn up on almost every world the expedition visits and the fingers point to one of Teyla’s people. Many thanks for the support over the holidays, we got decent numbers for our bonus shows which pretty much means we’ll do that again but for the now it’s Stargate all the way alternating between SG1 season 8 and SGA season 1.
As always you can listen and interact with us via this website, email, twitter, stitcher and google+ and of course itunes with it’s lovely ratings and review options, subtle hint yes?

In orbit the wreckage of the alien invasion fleet threatens the International Space Station but some nifty work by the resident cosmonaut saves the day but then the SGC loses contact with the station. Later a Russian Colonel is assigned to the SGC under the agreements with the various nations that have been let into the secret and he requests SG1 but General O’Neill rather abruptly smacks him down. The Russian later collapses and a chain events begin leading to a Lockdown/Foothold situation as the humans attempt to hold out while searching for the entity which can possess the bodies of humans.
Lockdown is a decent attempt to continue the Anubis storyline even allowing for the destruction of his fleet but as we know he is only partially corporeal so becoming some sort of energy based life form makes a lot of sense. The bottle show nature of this episode also works well, being located in the standing SGC sets will save money but also works to give us the feeling of confinement something the personnel of the base are having to deal with.
We have some good banter between the main characters and the introduction of a new doctor which was essential, the loss of Janet left quite a big gap in the running of the facility and well all scifi shows need a good doctor it’s kinda written in stone. There is also a familiar face as Aaron Pearl returns to the show playing a Major after playing the young Lt Hammond in the episode 1969.
There were some technical issues this week, we lost the first recording of SG1 Lockdown so had to do a rerun which is never quite the same, alas we lost part of the second recording of Lockdown as well before finally getting it in the can. I had to role back a release of the recording program and all has been well since then but then when do you update to the latest release, the trust has gone. Some creative cutting and pasting has given us an episode that is in sync despite some gaps in our coverage which have filled so enjoy and as always let us know what you think.
This weeks promo was from the Flash Pulp podcast, a creative outlet for thrice weekly pulpy type audio fiction/drama, very entertaining and a good community. Next week we are going back to Atlantis and covering the episode “Hide and Seek” so comments will be well received for inclusion in it’s feedback segment so keep posting on the various portals it really makes everything worthwhile.

I thought this was fitting as we have just kicked off our SG1 eighth season coverage, beautifully edited and a very nice piece of music.
There is a new Stargate SG1 novel out called “The Drift“. It’s currently available in a variety of ebook formats from the various Amazon stores as well as Crossroads Press, the paperback is due out in about 3 weeks.
The author will be very familiar to Gateworld listeners, Diana Dru Botsford.
There has been some discussion over the format of the next few years of the Gatecast in terms of merging the last three seasons of SG1 with the first three seasons of Atlantis. Now there is some crossover, not a huge amount but may be worth linking the two shows on a permanent or temporary basis. In general I prefer one approach and Alan another so why not have a poll where the people that actually listen can have their say:)
The poll will run for about a month.
A new President in the White House requires an ultra top secret briefing from the Joint Chiefs. President Hayes who has been elected along with Vice President Kinsey is read into the secret of Stargate Command and despite at first thinking he is having his leg pulled handles the revleations and pressures from vested interests very well. Kinsey with his lacky Woolsey attempts to spin the recent investigation their way citing numerous incidents pulled from the mission reports but the SGC have their own champions.
Inauguration is a clip show produced to save money which is required to fund the CGI budget of the season finale. In some cases this tends to provide us with a weak episode but a number of factors exist which makes this episode something of gem in an already strong season. This episode had it’s roots many years previously when the obvious need for a new commander in chief was first considered and this was an ideal time given that initially this was meant to be the last season of SG1 before becoming a feature. The biggest plus point for the episode is the casting of William Devane as the President, he plays the part magnificently and balances the wonder of learning of the Stargate as well as the determination required to handle the political aspects, we also have Robert Picardo back as Woolsey, James McDaniel as General Maynard and of course Ronny Cox spitting nails as Kinsey.
They really did pull a rabbit out of the hat with Inauguration, it could so easily have been a total lemon but turns into a very useful breathing space between the Heroes two parter and the Lost City two parter, it has humour, drama and top notch performances.
This weeks promos are from Pulp Audio Weekly and The Scifi Diner and next week we’ll be covering the first part of the season finale “Lost City Part 1”, we are always interested in your thoughts on this and previous episodes as well Stargate and our show in general so keep in touch via the usual means.
On the news front the wesbite has been running on it’s new host for a week and seems stable which is good and we are also now back in the itunes store which is better, lots of people do rely on Apples methodology.

Through an executive order from the oval office the Airforce have been forced to open up the doors of the SGC to a film crew who will document the day to day operations and provide a third party overview of the project for use as and when the Stargate programme becomes public knowledge. The General knowing this is just as much about the current President trying to tag his name to and ultimately share the limelight when the secret is revealed is playing along but only to the written wording of his orders. The result is that some of the SGC personnel are willing to talk candidly while others stonewall the film make Emmett Bregman and his airforce assigned film crew but events conspire to give him a glimpse of the true reality of day to say operations at the edge of the known and unknown universe.
Heroes was originally intended to be a single bottle show episode but the addition of some high value location scenes and a monumental battle sequence gave us this two parter considered by many to be a flagship production both infront and behind the camera. Saul Rubinek really gets a work out bringing his character to life playing against existing characters we know and love with at Amanda, Janet and Michael getting the most out of the interaction which when you think about it are the three characters most open while Don gets to play the General to the max dancing around his orders. RDA and Christopher are it seems both having fun taking their roles up a notch as Teal’c is stoic as ever and Jack showing his displeasure and irritation with the film crew and those that tag along like Senator Kinsey.
We have a guest host this week, Helen a friend of Alan’s who has only recently joined the Stargate family thanks to her fella. We also had some audio feedback from Dan which is fantastic and I’ve included a small review of the Big Finish SG1 audio drama “Gift of the Gods”. The promo this week is from the Scaper Chronicles and it’s no surprise that next week we’ll be covering Heroes Part 2 the conclusion to this story so be prepared with the tissues:)
The Gatecast website and RSS feed are stable and again submission to itunes is being held unto Alan is back from his holiday in the states, the season 7 poll is still active and ticking along nicely but if you haven’t voted then please do us, results are for the wrap up show.
