SG1 visit the planet Galaran who are part of the Asgard protected planets treaty with the former Systems Lords. With little support coming from the Asgard who have their own issues the Galarans have opened up talks with the Earth for mutual trade and information exchange offering a memory technology which could train anyone with any skill in a matter of days rather then months or even years. Impressed with the demonstration Cameron gets close to the head scientist a Dr Reya Varrick and after going home with her is found the next morning with her dead and a belief he killed her. Complications arise when it becomes evident that his memory has been tampered with and despite the Galarans looking to sweep the crime under the carpet Cameron insists on an investigation.
Collateral Damage is a rather dark story, quite brutally shot although the rather clever way to shoot the attack and it’s consequences mitigated a lot of the violence which probably got it past the Scifi channel censors at the time. The technology offered has it’s benefits that is for sure but is so open to exploitation for all the wrong reasons it’s almost to dangerous to have access too as clearly demonstrated by the events in this episode and for those that recall in the premiere of Blakes 7 when memories are tampered with to secure a conviction for political means by the powers that be. This was an out and out Cameron episode and Ben performed well both in the one on one with Reya (Anna Galvin) and then opening up Cameron’s character with part of his background good and bad all of which put him where he is today. Loved the guest appearance by Ian playing his dad and we’ll see him again and of course William playing the Emissary always delivers.
This weeks promo is for the Scifi Diner podcast and thanks to Brad for the voicemail and the chatter across our social media portals, we can’t thank you all enough for joining us as we enjoy everything that is Stargate, well apart from Infinity which I actually tried to watch via Amazon Prime this past week. Next week we have the Atlantis episode Epiphany and as always plenty of SG1 and Atlantis episodes that we could do with a guest to join us and we still have an opening for the Atlantis wrap up show we’ll be recording in about three months.

As Gerak serves the will of the Ori it is left to the remaining Jaffa who see the threat to their hard won freedom to rally against their leaders. In a desperate all or nothing move they offer Gerak and the council a simple choice, reject Origin or slaughter thousands even millions of free Jaffa who are offering no direct resistance. As trouble is approaching over Chu’lak the SGC have deployed their anti-prior device and captured a servant of the Ori and taken a blood sample with the hope it will lead to a cure for the plague sweeping across the globe. However Orlin who is rapidly losing his mental capability fails in his task but when asked by Gen Landry for one last effort he travels to the Sodan world and faces down the Prior who reveals the intentions of the Ori in the Milky Way, convert the peoples and then strike directly at their former brothers and sisters now known as the Ancients.
The Fourth Horseman Part 2 is an excellent conclusion to this two parter, both of the main stories are wrapped up well with suspense and a significant emotional aspect which is one area where Stargate always does well. The sacrifice of Gerak after his face to face with Teal’c was an exception scene for both actors and huge praise to the simple yet oh so effective locations and props which helped to set the scene. Orlin played by Cameron again worked well within the story, his grand gesture in return to human form ultimately paid off but not in the way he intended, it was perhaps a little cop out to have the boy surviving and shades of the episode Learning Curve but The Fourth Horseman is at the end of the day about the hope that can now be drawn for a minor victory in this grade endeavour.
We’ve included some feedback for last weeks show and of course a few of the more notable Stargate related birthdays for the upcoming week and also a book review of the novel Houdini & Lovecraft, The Ghost Writer written by Ron Wilkerson. So I watched the SG1 episode Collateral Damage this morning and a few hours later watched the latest episode of Almost Human “Perception” which was broadcast on the 10th. I immediately recognised Anna Galvin who played Dr. Reya Varrick from the SG1 episode in the role of Mrs. Hoving in Almost Human. An additional Stargate connection is her role as Mrs Armstrong on four episodes of Stargate Universe so a two for one spot:)
A SG1 blast from the past via the Spoofpark website and thanks to @StargateLegend
for tweeting the picture:)
The second installment of the mobile/tablet game Unleashed based on the Stargate SG1 series was released today, currently just for iOS and offered via itunes it retails for £2.99/$4.99
Alexis Cruz (Skaara Stargate, SG1) pays the show another visit along with
Heather Harris and they tall cosplay, Stargate and Harley Quinn.
I’ve been busy catching up with the second season of Saving Hope and now patiently waiting for the tenth episode but for now here is Patrick McKenna playing Roddy Gray in the seventh episode of the second season called “Bed One” in which he is suffering from flesh eating disease and gets trapped in an elevator on his way to dialysis.
Patrick appeared twice (The Other Guys, Avenger 2.0) in Stargate SG1 playing the scientist Jay Felger a character created for comic relief but with heart and style that made him a fan favourite straight away. Patrick during his career has starred in the Robocop tv series, The Red Green Show, Traders, Best Ed and Hard Rock Medical. He has also provided the voice talent for many animated shows.
Changes abound in and around the SGC with the aftermath of the battle for Dakara and the attack by the Replicators on the base. Major General Jack O’Neill has moved on and his chosen replacement Major General Hank Landry has taken over and is having running battles with his “psychic” assistant one Master Sargent Walter Harriman. Lt Colonel Cameron Mitchell recovered from the battle over Antarctica against the forces of Anubis has taken over the command of SG1 and expected to be working with Sam, Daniel and Teal’c but they like Jack have moved on. He valiantly attempts to get the band back together but is getting nowhere until one Vala Mal Doran visits the SGC with a tablet and the promise of technology and treasure and low and behold everyone is off on a mission to track down the old haunts of Merlin and the buried secrets of the Ancients in and around Glastonbury.
Well season nine heralds some significant changes for the show with Richard Dean Anderson becoming nothing more than an occasional guest and thus a full time replacement in the big chair is presented to use with Hank Landry played by Beau Bridges and in the field Cameron Mitchell played by Ben Browder. Vala Mal Doran played wonderfully by Claudia Black also has a strong presence in this season as is the move away from the tradition religions and cultures by embracing a more western European and more specifically Arthurian legends and myths.
It was certainly interesting to see how quickly the last three members of SG1 quickly looked to break away from the SGC, after so many years of blood, sweat and tears you can understand why they all may think they have done enough however Teal’c perhaps more than the other two has accepted a path which is more demanding and maybe just as dangerous, politics with starships as collateral in decision making. As with many of the two part stories within Stargate this first part is laying a lot of the groundwork for the pay off in the second and it needs it, it’s easy to get washed away with all the changes to characters and tweaking of the long established mythology but it will all pay off.
One huge decision by the producers and writers was to make sure the episode had it’s fair share of out and out humour and not ignoring the obvious Farscape connection between Ben and Claudia as well as playing up the concerns over the similar look/style of Michael and Ben. As we look back at this episode and ninth season we know many fans had issues and some never got over losing Jack as a focus for the show or even the use of Farscape talent to fill the gaps. I’ve no doubt the casting of both Ben and Claudia brought in some Farscape fans and it was probably a good marketing move but scifi fans can be picky, it’s always tricky dealing with change and the consequences but we did get more Stargate and is not a bad thing.
Huge thank you to Brad and GateTechAlfaSix for the audio feedback and everyone who posted on Facebook, G+ and on Twitter, the wrap up shows and poll results were well received and we are now back into the swing of things and will handle Alan’s moving home in our stride. Please feel free to get in touch with any comments about Stargate, Gatecast or scifi in general, we certainly do appreciate talking to people who share our enthusiasm for Stargate and the scifi/fantasy genre and an itunes review/rating is always appreciated:)
This weeks promo is for Aaron’s SciFiDig and next week we begin the second season of Stargate Atlantis, we hope you can join us for that.

I admit I’m a few weeks late to the party as Cedar Cove the new hit show for the Hallmark channel has been lauded in the press and social media since it’s premiered a month or so back. Filmed in Canada and based on the novels by Debbie Macomber it’s lead actress is the talented Andie MacDowell and draws upon the extensive talent from the Vancouver area. The result is a screen full of familiar actors who have been part of the Stargate franchise across it’s three live action series and a few names you will recognise from behind the camera as well.
Cedar Cove isn’t really a show that is aimed at my demographic but it has echoes of an early Picket Fences which I loved way back when and of course there is no doubt the attraction of actors from the Stargate series and a bonus is Bruce Boxleitner who has appeared in many shows and movies I’ve enjoyed over the years. One thing that can not be questioned is how beautiful the show is shot, the location and the look of the show really combine to make a crisp and clean view of wonderful piece of Canada.
As for the actors I’ve included in this post I’ll leave it up to you to put names/faces into their respective Stargate episodes and I have no doubt as the first season of Cedar Cove continues we’ll see more of them and further guest appearances from our favourite franchise.
Welcome to the wrap up show for the eighth season of Stargate SG1.
We didn’t get a third voice for this show so we both did our best and thanks to Brad for sending in some audio comments about the episodes which I spliced in through out the show.
It’s been a good season for SG1 with some very strong episodes particularly the second half of the season and that may have been the result in the belief they were wrapping up the show with the option of an unrealised Stargate Command series as another spin off. What ever happened or didn’t we are left with some stunning episodes both in terms of drama, action and humour with an ever increasing style and production value to the show despite tighter shooting schedules and budget restraints.
Poll Results
Total Votes 94
Top Three Episodes
Many thanks to everyone who voted in the poll and making it our highest turn out which
was most rewarding.
Next week we will be doing the Stargate Atlantis wrap up show and Brad joins us for that
and then we’ll be looking towards SG1 season 9 and SGA season 2, the journey never ends:)

The Stargate SG1 novel “Ouroboros” written by Melissa Scott is now available in paperback from Stargate Novels and joins it’s ebook brethren in the impressive lineup up of Stargate books offered by Stargate Novels & Fandemonium.
Stargate Special Offer – News – Big Finish
Ordered a bunch of CD’s and I did like the postage contribution tag which I guess makes up for the pricing being the same for the physical media and the download.
This special offer ends Wednesday 17th.
Sam and Jacob study the Ancient superweapon on Dakara and discover that it is capable of rearranging elements on a galactic scale and by using the Stargate network the modified energy pulse could be used to target only the Replicators in the Milky Way galaxy. Baal who has been sent by Anubis to retake the planet is roped into programming the weapon to meet the specifics of the Replicators and to enable the gate Network into dialing every gate at the same time, it’s an all or nothing play.
Daniel meanwhile is aboard Replicarters ship and is still being interrogated while the replicators assault the Gou’ald fleet in orbit around Dakara and they hit the SGC at the same time, as their total victory approaches Daniel is able to gain control of the machines and give Sam, Jacob and Ba’al just enough time to trigger the superweapon and in a matter of seconds the galaxy is purged of replicators.
Bra’tac boards Ba’als flagship and attempts to capture the System Lord but he flees and that action as well as the taking and keeping of Dakara proves to enough Jaffa that freedom is within reach and the age of the Goa’ald is almost at an end.
Reckoning Part 2 continues with the action and suspense provided by the first part of the double header, Jack does his thing in the SGC as the Replicators run wild and we have the usual action and humour SG1 was known for. The epic space battle (more implied than seen) is wonderful with more than a nod to Star Wars which via the episode commentary seems to have been a Robert C Cooper sort of thing. We also get the politics and self interest which turns Ba’al away from Anubis which could seal his doom but as we find out in episodes and seasons to come Ba’al is a little harder to kill than the average Gou’ald.
Reckoning is simply one of the best episodes of Stargate SG1, more so because it’s a double episode and both parts are strong enough to stand alone let alone in tandem. The production value is off the charts with live action on large sets, matt and composite backdrops, great CGI and top notch acting and writing. It’ll be interesting to see how it fares in the season 8 poll but the votes may be split leaving some other strong episode to win the day.
Many thanks to Brad for joining us this week and for his voicemail regarding Letters From Pegasus and we got some Facebook feedback and a little twitter action during the recording of the show. I also checked the US itunes store and we got a couple of five star reviews so a big thank you to qapla_be’Hom and Lost In The Gate. We would love to hear from anyone about anything Stargate not just our own view of the franchise and you can contact us via this website or via Twitter, Facebook, Google+ or Email. This weeks promo is from Trek News & Views an excellent Star Trek podcast and next week we are covering the unofficial third part of this trilogy with Threads, Jeff joins us for that show.
