I just noticed that A Dog’s Breakfast the independent movie written and directed by David Hewlett (Rodney as if you need reminding) is currently playing in the UK on MGM HD. He plays a rather neurotic brother who attempts to break up the relationship between her sister and new fella by any means necessary. Kate Hewlett (his real sister) plays his screen sister with Paul McGillion (Beckett from SGA) playing her boyfriend guest stars include Christopher Judge and Rachel Luttrell and a couple of actors no from the SG franchise:).

I own the DVD and enjoyed the movie when I’ve watched it but I’ve added the HD version to the DVR to see what it looks like and it’s been a while since I’ve watched the movie so as good as time as any.

SG1 return from a very rainy mission to find the SGC under tight security after a chemical spill but in the infirmary what seems to be a genuine medical procedure reveals itself to a be more sinister endeavour leaving only Sam and Teal to raise the alarm, aliens are on Earth!

Foothold hails the return of Maybourne (Tom McBeath) as Sam is faced not knowing who to trust so goes outside the SGC, he is of course his own foolish self but there is a lot of comedy value especially in this episode in many ways despite the “invasion” the story is a fun adventure ride.

I’ve just finished watching the Smallville episode “Shield” the second ep of the final season and Michael Shanks reprises his role as Hawkman but in his civvy disguise as yes an archaeologist. At least one scene looked like a homage to Indiana Jones so all in all a geeky moment:)

SG1 along with Martouf and Jacob are still prisoners on Netu thanks to the prisoners rebellion and as the one formerly known as Naonak bargains with Sokar the Tokra implement their own direct action plan to remove the threat of Goauld civil war and the rise of Sokar to well ruler of the galaxy.

This is the conclusion to the episode “Jolinars Memories” and is quite a pivotal episode as it sets the scene and players for future stories/events. The use of the memory device to spoof real memories with a twist was interesting in allowing us to see Sam as a youngster, Charlie, Daniels issues over his wifes son and Martoufs love for Jolinar and by extension Sam. The fact all these attempts failed to various degrees just underlines why Goauld endeavours fall short when dealing with the more complex individuals/organisations like the Tokra and SGC.

While investigating Sokar and a potential move against the system lords Selmak aka Jacob gets himself captured and taken to Netu a world created to resemble the mythical hell. A daring rescue attempt by SG1 and Martouf armed with the inside knowledge of Jolinar (the one person to escape from Netu) does not go well and then things really start to go wrong.

Jolinars Memories is the first of a two parter as we see the power play and resources Sokar has gathered to combat his fellow system lords and we’ve already seen his ingenuity and malice when dealing with Apophis.

Well I have been in two minds in regards to watching the trailers for the upcoming SGU season 2 since I really do not appreciate spoilers but lets be honest guest star casting news is pretty impossible to avoid so here is the latest trailer, watch if you dare:)
The season two premiere kicks off on the US SyFy channel this Tuesday the 28th and is partnered up with the early returning Caprica (if that is your thing). SGU returns to UK screens on Tuesday the fifth of October on SKY1 and is followed by the new season of Fringe.

A world with no children and the entire population have no memories beyond the last few months, this is what greats SG1 on a routine exploratory mission. Daniel soon becomes close to the leader of the people while researching the condition and upon returning to the SGC they discover the truth and the return of a familiar character.

Past and Present is an episode the franchise does well, returning to a theme or character that has worked well in the past and this case with a twist to make it more viable. There were some issues with exactly how large this population was or how advanced but it’s the character of Kera that’s important and the question of wrongs done in the past by essentially a different person. The complication of Daniel falling for her adds spice but does suffer from simply being the next episode on from when he lost his wife.

All in all an entertaining and well written/performed episode.

We are well into the third season now so voting is open and will continue to the end of the season and the results included in the wrap up show. Additional comments (email, mp3 etc) will be most welcome on specific episodes or the season in general.

A rescue mission leads to a pitched battle with the Jaffa of Amonet who is holding a number of Abydonians including Kasuf prisoner. Daniel reaches the elaborate tent of Amonet who proceeds to fry his brain but all is not as it seems as Daniel flashes between realities where Share dies and another where she lives.

Forever in a Day is a marvellous episode which ties up the Sha’re story in a very creative way and allows for Daniel to have closure while setting up a valid reason why he and the SGC continue to search the stars.

Vaitiare Bandera and Erik Avari both return to the show reprising their roles and Jason Schombing guest stars as Dr Rothman.

On a routine mission SG1 witness a firefight between what looks like a SG team and a Jaffa contingent, unsure who the SG team they decide to intervene but get more than they bargained for and uncover a long term plan put into place by a system lord.

This is a split shoot between the standing set and location (yeah trees are involved) but they do get their monies worth out of some pretty basic setups and it’s curious that we see better military tactics from SGX then we do many times for the genuine SG teams.

This episode does provide continuity sources in as far as the Intar weapon features in a future episode and two of the actors (Aaron Craven & Dion Johnstone) go onto other roles within the franchise.

It’s always good to keep tabs on the work of the actors involved in our favourite franchise so lets talk about the American World Pictures adaptation of the comic series “Paradox” starring Kevin Sorbo but featuring a good role for Chris Judge.

The story centers around a murder which takes place on a version of Earth where magic underpins the entire world, everything is done with magic including cell phones, forensics, weapons etc etc and it’s science that is considered the “fringe” belief.
When the murder is committed with no trace of magical input Sean Nault (Kevin) investigates and uses his belief in science to explore avenues others would not consider, aided by his Captain (Chris Judge) and the coroner Helen played by Alisen Down (SGU, BSG, Smallville) and a science practitioner played by Steph Song (Smallville) he discovers a conspiracy which goes beyond his own reality!

I enjoyed this movie and I think any fan of SG1 and SGA (maybe not so much SGU) will enjoy it as well as seeing Chris in a more recent production still looking badass:)

Here are a few recent audio interviews from various cast members of the Stargate franchise, have a listen and explore the back catalogues of these podcasts, there are some gems to be found:)

SG1 discover the first Christian community off world indicating they were taken from Earth after the death or Ra using the second stargate. The people are mired in a religion heavily slanted towards the Devil and Hell created by Sokar and unknowingly administrated by the clergy of this world.

Tealc is called a Demon and fails the dunking test leading to SG1 and one of the villagers (Mary) to be condemned to hell through the gate of darkness while Simon a young monk and more open minded member of the village wrestles with going against his societies rules.

While searching for a crashed UAV the guys are captured by an a bounty hunter who intends to trade them to a system lord or use them to capture a more valuable prize whose identity causes more complications.
The episode features Sam Jones who is perhaps most well known for playing Flash Gordon in the movie a couple of decades ago and he plays the bounty hunter Aris Boch to perfection.  We are also introduced to our first look at the Tel’tak cargo vessel which features strongly as the workhorse of the Goauld and independent fleets and we meet a new Tokra by the name of Korra played by Mark Holden.

Sokar is once again an element of the story which fuels his role as this season big bad.
This was a decent episode, a good character played well by Sam was the key and it was clear that SG1 has been very lucky in the past, a dedicated professional took them out easily while the more emotional and head strong system lords and followers continually fail.
