I’m in the final season of my Deep Space Nine rewatch and a name popped up in the credits for the episode “Prodigal Daughter” that I recognised thanks to having seen quite a bit of his performance on Stargate Atlantis over the last month or so.

Please be in awe of Clayton Landey who under a ton of prosthetics plays the security officer Fuchida who rescues Miles from a beating by enforcers of the Orion Syndicate. It was a small role but I always get a buzz when I recognise actors in other series, in this case an earlier role before appearing as Colonel Dillon Everett in SGA.

I admit I’m a few weeks late to the party as Cedar Cove the new hit show for the Hallmark channel has been lauded in the press and social media since it’s premiered a month or so back. Filmed in Canada and based on the novels by Debbie Macomber it’s lead actress is the talented Andie MacDowell and draws upon the extensive talent from the Vancouver area. The result is a screen full of familiar actors who have been part of the Stargate franchise across it’s three live action series and a few names you will recognise from behind the camera as well.

Cedar Cove isn’t really a show that is aimed at my demographic but it has echoes of an early Picket Fences which I loved way back when and of course there is no doubt the attraction of actors from the Stargate series and a bonus is Bruce Boxleitner who has appeared in many shows and movies I’ve enjoyed over the years. One thing that can not be questioned is how beautiful the show is shot, the location and the look of the show really combine to make a crisp and clean view of wonderful piece of Canada.

As for the actors I’ve included in this post I’ll leave it up to you to put names/faces into their respective Stargate episodes and I have no doubt as the first season of Cedar Cove continues we’ll see more of them and further guest appearances from our favourite franchise.

I’ve been catching up with the Tweet Out shows on the GeekNation website and David talks quite a bit about Stargate so pretty relevant, that aside he’s an interesting guy and his podcast Out Of The Blue and indeed GeekNation itself are both excellent sources of entertainment.

Now some of you may know I am a fan of the “b” movie genre especially the creature features from one or two particular studios who have perfected the art of producing movies with modest budgets yet can be very entertaining if you understanding why they exist:)

I watched Age of Dinosaurs a couple of days ago which is a creature feature with very strong vibes of Jurassic Park in that a very wealthy individual backs some science guys who perfect a method to re-introducing dinosaurs into the modern world which as you no doubt already suspect blows up in their faces.

The plus point for this movie was the starring roll for our own Ronny Cox as Justin the man behind the dream of dinosaurs and truth be told the technology his company pioneered had many practical and beneficial users. Alas creating dinosaurs and then having a grand opening in his corporate HQ in LA was not a great idea cue rampant carnage and humans running around like mindless chickens with a father and daughter learning a life lesson so always a silver lining.

So I am well past the mid-point of the Deep Space Nine rewatch and last night watched the final two episodes of the fifth season, the penultimate episode was called “In The Cards” and I got a nice little surprise with one of the two main guest stars being Brian Markinson as Giger.
If you don’t recall he played Lotan in the Stargate SG1 fourth season episode Scorched Earth and more recently appeared in Sanctuary, Arctic Air, Mad Men, Arrow and Continuum.

Angela posted this picture on twitter of one of her Farmville towns complete with Stargate, a dash of modern tech in the rural landscape:)

It would make my day if Tapped Out got that sort of add-on, even as an in game purchase:)

GateWorld » Teryl Rothery to Guest on Arrow

terylrothery

Many thanks to Gateworld for the news that Teryl Rothery is going to  appear in the second season of CW’s Arrow. She can currently be seen on  the Hallmark series Cedar Cove and we of course love her from Kyle X:Y or  maybe that small role on that SG1 show:)

You may be asking yourself why Enders Game is being featured on the site but the answer is fairly simple in that it’s director  Gavin Hood  played Colonel Alexi Vaselov in the Stargate SG1 episode Lockdown. He also directed X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Tsotsi. The movie is due for a UK release in October.

The movie is based on the novel by Orson Scott Card and I’m ashamed to say that my scifi cred takes a hit as I have yet to read the book.

I haven’t watched A Dog’s Breakfast recently and a post on the twitter feed tickled my fancy so I thought it was about time I watched David Hewlett, his sister Kate with pals Paul, Rachel and Christopher have fun in this low budget comedy. You’ll spot many familiar names in the credits as well but I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know, I doubt there are many Stargate fans that have not watched this movie.

The movie follows the slightly warped Patrick as he gets to grips with his sister (Marilyn) bringing home her fiancée (Ryan) a Scifi tv star. After over hearing a phone call which indicates Ryan is planning to kill Marilyn he then plans to kill Ryan, fun and games commence.

The Demented is out now on DVD and VOD/OnDemand etc. The movie features our own Michael Welch who played young Jack O’Neill in the Stargate SG1 episode “Fragile Balance” as well as Luke Girardi in Joan of Arcadia. The story involves a group of teenagers out for a good time and being center stage at a biological terrorist attack, the plot is generic but it makes a change from a psycho killer or bigfoot:)

The movie also stars Kayla Ewell (Vampire Diaries).

I’ve slowly been re-watching Deep Space Nine so it came as a pleasant surprise to see Galyn Görg who was in The Visitor a fourth season episode of DS9 playing Korena the wife of Jake Sisco. Galyn appeared a few years later as Kendra in Thor’s Hammer a first season episode of Stargate SG1.

The Visitor tells the story of Jake Sisco after his father is “killed” on a routine mission on board the Defiant. Jake continues to see his father through out the years and finally realises Ben is trapped in a sub-space like limbo and tied to Jake’s life force. On this one stormy night a young woman visits Jake and he tells her the story and we see the events in flashback. The Visitor is an excellent episode of Deep Space Nine with Tony Todd putting in a great performance.
