avatar2 The strike team are captive of the queen of the hive ship and as John is questioned by her good self and a second hive arrives, John is returned to the cell and with some well hidden knives thanks to Ronon and Ford they trigger the release mechanism and make a run for it. Meanwhile Rodney takes a huge dose of the enzyme and fights his way out of captivity and returns to Atlantis and with the Daedalus at hand returns to rescue his team. As they roam through the hive they rescue some cocooned prisoners but their freedom is short lived, John and the woman Neera are separated from the group and he learns a little about her life and when the Wraith culled her world. Time is pressing though, the enzyme is leaving their systems and Kanayo who has been on the drug longer dies which does not bode well for Teyla and Ronon. John is brought before the queen once again and he convinces her he is a Wraith worshipper sent to infiltrate the hive by a rival queen, suspicions aroused when John in a dart makes his escape and starts firing on the other hive a full scale conflict erupts with the Daedalus an onlooker.

The best computer game, ever!

The best computer game, ever!

The Hive is an excellent conclusion to this two parter, we get some very good action both with the stunning CGI space battle but also great stunt work around Rodney’s escape and the hand to hand battles on the hive ship. It’s an interesting twist to have humans willingly follow the hive, while it seems reasonable for some humans to do this I don’t really see what they Wraith get out of it, maybe the Queen who stands alone sees some form of companionship through them which she doesn’t get from her “drones”.

Any time, any place, any where.

Any time, any place, any where.

When we look at these two episodes they served the show well in allowing Ford to return and for the expedition to take some steps forward in what they learn about the Wraith all of which will pay off later in the series to various degrees of success. The enzyme and it’s value is finally put to bed, while short term there are definite plus points and in time with research it could prove a valuable drug but for now the side effects and limitations can not be ignored.

Thanks to everyone who chatted with us via a online portals, always great to talk to fellow Stargate fans and in that respect if you fancy joining us for an episode get in touch and we’ll sort something out. This weeks promo if for Pulp Audio Weekly a very geeky and humourous podcast and next week we are going to cover the SG1 episode Collateral Damage, hope you can join us.

avatar As Gerak serves the will of the Ori it is left to the remaining Jaffa who see the threat to their hard won freedom to rally against their leaders. In a desperate all or nothing move they offer Gerak and the council a simple choice, reject Origin or slaughter thousands even millions of free Jaffa who are offering no direct resistance. As trouble is approaching over Chu’lak the SGC have deployed their anti-prior device and captured a servant of the Ori and taken a blood sample with the hope it will lead to a cure for the plague sweeping across the globe. However Orlin who is rapidly losing his mental capability fails in his task but when asked by Gen Landry for one last effort he travels to the Sodan world and faces down the Prior who reveals the intentions of the Ori in the Milky Way, convert the peoples and then strike directly at their former brothers and sisters now known as the  Ancients.

Together they are Strong

Together they are Strong

The Fourth Horseman Part 2 is an excellent conclusion to this two parter, both of the main stories are wrapped up well with suspense and a significant emotional aspect which is one area where Stargate always does well. The sacrifice of Gerak after his face to face with Teal’c was an exception scene for both actors and huge praise to the simple yet oh so effective locations and props which helped to set the scene. Orlin played by Cameron again worked well within the story, his grand gesture in return to human form ultimately paid off but not in the way he intended, it was perhaps a little cop out to have the boy surviving and shades of the episode Learning Curve but The Fourth Horseman is at the end of the day about the hope that can now be drawn for a minor victory in this grade endeavour.

avatar The team is captured and taken off the world they were exploring by a group of unknown men, they awake inside a cavern and their nemesis if you will is revealed in the form of Lt. Ford who then goes onto to explain how he escaped from the Hive ship when he willingly jumped into a culling beam to escape being captured by Sheppard. The team are now being dosed with the Wraith enzyme as Ford believes only by seeing for themselves what the drug will do can the damage be repaired and he can be forgiven and accepted by those he once considered family. The first mission proves to be a success but from a technical standpoint very amateurish but John plays along hoping that the goal of destroying a hive ship with the use of a recovered Dart will provide a means to escape back to Atlantis.

The Lost Boys is the first of a two part episode and allows the show to bring back Rainbow for a very meaty guest starring role and goes on to dig deeper in to the merits of the Wraith enzyme and of course the ethics in harvesting the drug from the Wraith which begs the question who are the monsters praying on sentient beings now? It was a little disappointing how easily the team were originally captured but SG1 also had that problem at times but we did get some nice dialogue and action with the team dealing with Ford and his band of merry men who had achieved much in learning the ways of the Wraith. It’s understandable that both Ronon and Teyla would be seduced by the extra power and capabilities the drug gave them, they are both warriors and protectors were as McKay didn’t benefit as much, yes he gets stronger as we’ll see in the second part but it doesn’t accentuate his intellect which is his reason for being.

I told you I would be back

I told you I would be back

The Lost Boys as with many two parters suffers as it’s a vehicle to build the story which is going to be paid off in the second part but for all that it’s an entertaining episode and we get plenty of action and even some good Weir / Lorne dialogue and how great to see him with the viewpoint of what do you expect from Sheppard’s team, they are not punctual or by the book.  It is without any doubt a very clever and well written episode to bring Rainbow back into the show and what’s more we get him again in the next episode of Atlantis with more of the same but raised a notch or two.

avatar2 A recon unit return from an undercover mission on a planet which is being visited by a Prior of the Ori, the men soon become ill and reveal one of them was touched by the Prior during a religious service and in hindsight it was easy to see the Ori knew who they were and used them to carry a plague back to Earth to decimate the heart of the potential resistance in the Milky Way.  As Sam investigates the possibility of developing an anti-prior weapon based on the knowledge they gained from the scans of Khalek back on Dakara a Prior is working his magic on Gerak who is embracing the concept of enlightenment which is worrying Bra’tac and Teal’c. Orlin returns to the corporeal world as a young boy, his explanation being the younger brain would be more adept at retaining the knowledge required to cure the plague but it’s a one way trip, for Sam and her world he is willing to sacrifice everything. Gerak is showing some resistance to the demands of the Prior but is then taken to Celestis and when he returns it seems the Ori now have a key player for the invasion of the galaxy.

TFH1 (44)

That can’t be good.

The Fourth Horseman Part 1 is an excellent episode in it’s own right let alone the first half of a two parter, with a restricted tv budget and resources the producers manage to convey the potential disaster of a global pandemic and the galaxy wide ramifications as the Jaffa nation could become a de facto army for the Ori.  It’s almost brutal watching Gerak a man driven by the desire for power see the Ori as both a means to an end but also maybe some sort of personal fulfillment in the spiritual sense, you do believe that he believes in their message despite knowing what the Ori are willing to do to anyone that does not bow down to them. There is hope of course, Sam and Dr Lee have come up with a way to disrupt the energy being channeled to and by a Prior but it has to be tested so a visit to the Sodan is called for and they may not be an easy challenge in itself.

The Brains Trust

The Brains Trust

The return of Orlin was a bit of a surprise and his new look took some getting use too, there was some logic behind it but as we learned in the commentary the idea was to have Sean Patrick Flanery return as the character but he was unavailable and the writers earned their money with young Orlin and making it work with the acting talents of Cameron playing  a big part.  Oh and lets not forget the return of the late Don S. Davis as General Hammond who filled in at the last minute when General Jumper was unable to film his cameo, it was great to see Don who appears again in part 2.

Thank you everyone for the feedback on last weeks show and continued support via Facebook, Google+ and especially Twitter. There’s a little news and birthdays included in this weeks show and next week we return to Atlantis for the first part of their two parter “The Lost Boys” which sees the return of a season 1 regular. avatar2 The cities long range sensors detect an Ancient vessel in deep space where it has lain dormant since the Pegasus galaxy was abandoned by the ancients prior to the sinking of the city. The Daedalus is tasked to investigate and Weir insists that her team go along for the ride as they have more experience dealing with Wraith technology and Caldwell reluctantly agrees. They destroy a Wraith ship which is near the “Aurora” and when beaming over they find the crew in suspended animation although it seems their minds are active within the ships computer perhaps a way to maintain sanity and health for long periods of hibernation. John enters the system to talk to the crew but they’ve forgotten it’s simulation and are busy working on hyperdrive improvements to allow them to return to Atlantis with key information which could turn the tide of the war. McKay discovers that a Wraith is also in the system and when John figures out who it is after continually being arrested and imprisoned the captain and crew finally realise what has become of them and despite the loss of the tactical information they embrace the end and take two Wraith cruisers with them in a fiery display of destructive energy.

Aurora (14)

Aurora is a cracking little episode, we get to see an ancient warship which is a rather dull design but perhaps it’s functionality is the key for the mass produced vessels in a similar way to the puddle jumpers. The set design however of the interior looks very nice, the bridge is classy looking and once again we see the ancients as being a lot more like us they we were originally led to believe. The butting heads between Weir and Caldwell continues with perhaps an undercurrent of attraction at least from Caldwell, I think he admires Elizabeth’s strength even when it’s aimed at him. MacKay has a lot of fun with his own close encounters and a pleasing role for the delightful Pascale Hutton.

avatar Colonel Carter takes SG5 to investigate a possible ORI supergate but they return quite quickly after gating to the wrong planet, the SGC computers and hardware comes under scrutiny and they find nothing but the signal being generated by the gate reveals an embedded pulse which Sam believes to be some sort of gate keeper in effect blocking access to the intended destination and automatically rerouting to another gate. The signal is decoded and SG1 and SG5 arrive on the world and discover a lab complete with a DNA manipulation device and a humanoid frozen in an Ancient cryo unit. It turns out the lab was being used to experiment with the development of advance humans and more specifically Anubis was looking to once again reach Accession by artificially improving the brain power of his clones. Khalek proves to be a bad seed, not a surprise being a clone of Anubis without many of the restrictions placed on his powers, he quickly escapes from the SGC but as with all Goa’uld his arrogance proves his undoing as he underestimates both Sam and Daniel.

I think it may have locked.

I think it may have locked.

Prototype is a pretty good episode more so it has to be said thanks to the excellent performance of Neil Jackson who captured to initial innocence of Khalek and then the cold calculating manipulation and arrogance of the reborn Anubis. The dialogue between Khalek and Daniel and then Woolsey was well written and performed flawlessly, it really did spell out much of the current situation that exists on Earth as the SGC and IOA have to deal with in many cased contradicting goals even in the face of the ORI incursion in the Milky Way.
We get some good stunt work and action when Khalak takes on the entire base upto an including using Teal’c as a battering ram and it’s really cheating when you can create a shield to block bullets, doesn’t really seem very fair at all. It’s perhaps more gratifying then it should be that ultimately a single shot delivered from a 9mm from an unexpected source proves his downfall but once again we see all aspects and talents of the SGC personnel being put to good use.

Such a sweet boy.

Such a sweet boy.

avatar2 Infected after his encounter with the young wraith Ellia, John is slowly but surely losing his humanity as his DNA is rewritten to suit the needs of an Iratus hybrid. As his body changes so does his mind and despite himself he becomes a danger to his friends and the city itself and even with Carson and his team dreaming up wild solutions it doesn’t look good for him. Ultimately it’s his new form which allows Carson to gain the genetic material he needs to formulate a cure but it’s costs lives something John will have to come to terms with as will Lorne who commanded the mission and did what was required.

Conversion is a fairly strong episode in the second season and a good companion to the previous episode Instinct but it isn’t great mostly because the story demands a complete solution which is almost a reset at the end of the episode and Stargate stories always work better with consequences always being taken into account. That said we get some good interaction between John and Teyla and even better when he has to deal with Weir, there was always a possibility the writers would have paired either of these two strong women with John and in two different ways we see the potential. It was also fun to see Weir taking on Caldwell but you can’t really criticise him because he was right, maybe not tactful and considerate but that’s the military aspect I guess.

Now now, be gentle John

Now now, be gentle John

Perhaps one of the unintended highlights of the episode was John doing a passable imitation of Spiderman and then the intended light hearted view of Ronon being very cold and calculating when tracking down John which really showed us the differences between a Runner and the human contingent in the city.

They're there for John

They’re there for John

Conversion is worth watching when combined with Instinct, it has issues but we did have fun watching the episode and I think that always makes up for a lot of other issues. This episode of the podcast always includes a short review of the Stargate Atlantis novel “Brimstone” written by David Niall Wilson and Patricia Lee Macomber as well as some upcoming Stargate related birthdates.

Thank you to Brad for joining us on the show and as always a big thank you to everyone who has talked with us or contributed to any of our social media portals, we’re all part of the Stargate family. This weeks promo is for the new Star Trek Original Series podcast “Two To Beam Up” and next week we are back with the Stargate SG1 episode “Prototype” so we hope you can join us for that. avatar On this final bonus episode at least for now we are taking a look at an episode of the Canadian childrens series Goosebumps, you may ask why and the answer is simple as the episode “It Came From Beneath The Sink” features Amanda Tapping and Katharine Isabelle and was directed by David Winning. The series was based on the novels of R. L. Stine and offered four seasons of horror themed stories to add that little bit of spice to a young person’s television viewing, not intended for really young children but spooky and scary enough for those who recognised that television wasn’t real.

Goosebumps (1)

In “It Came From Beneath The Sink” a family move into a new home and the daughter discovers a strange sponge like creature resident in the house, it quickly proves itself to be anything but a playful pet and thanks to a little research by a young friend of the family and a disastrous attempt to rope in the schools science teacher the type of creature is discovered and a way to fight it is found which gives you a sort of happy ending. The show despite the spooky element has a lot of humour and this episode makes full use of the nerdy friend and lovable family pet “killer” who has more sense than any of the humans.

Eat your Vegetables

Eat your Vegetables

Amanda Tapping plays the mother of the family and it’s a pretty small supporting role, a young Katharine Isabelle is the lead in the episode and plays her part well and the episode is directed by David Winning who also directed the Stargate Atlantis episode “Childhoods End”.

Many thanks to Brad who joined me for this episode as Alan was doing his Discworld convention thing and thanks to everyone who has supported us over the holiday season by listening to the bonus shows, next week we go back to our regular Stargate shows with the Atlantis episode “Conversion”. Thanks for the feedback especially Brad and Dan for the voicemails and we would love to hear from you about our show and more importantly Stargate in all it’s flavours. If you fancy helping the podcast then an itunes review and/or rating would be much appreciated, same goes for stitcher and a simple tweet or mention on an social media portal would be most welcome.

One final mention for Brad who recorded a review of the Big Finish Stargate Atlantis audio drama entitled “A Necessary Evil” which was for an intended review show which never came about, the review was added to this show and the Big Finish productions are well worth checking out.

avatar Once again we delved into the IMDB lists of our family of Stargate actors and came up with an episode of Andromeda which not only starred Lexa Doig but had Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge as guest stars. As pure icing JR Bourne was also featured in the episode and it was directed by Allan Eastman who directed the SG1 episode Fire and Water so by anyones criteria Day of Judgement, Day of Wrath was perfect for a bonus show. The episode is from the third season and while it’s not purely standalone it can be viewed as such although even with a syndicated show such as Andromeda you still will benefit from knowing the characters and some of the back story.

In Day of Judgement, Day of Wrath we see the AI of the Andromeda Ascendant taken over by the former AI of a ship they had dealt with in an earlier episode, the crew unaware of the switch have to deal with the confusion surrounding not only the impact on the Andromeda but also the new ship  Resolution of Hector as it is stolen by the new AI. The Andromeda is then with the consent of it’s Captain (Kevin Sorbo) has it’s AI replaced with the entity that was going to be controlling the Hector and they then go in pursuit of the stolen ship. As the episode progresses we get drama and action on both ships which works on the character traits of the existing crew and for Stargate fans the chemistry between the two AI’s (Lexa and Michael) on the Hector is obvious and on board Andromeda it’s new AI (Christopher) works well opposite Hunt. We get some pretty good action both CGI and the often use tactical displays (cost saving) but the core of the story is about what it’s meant to be to be an AI and in control of a High Guard starship and the consequences of theirs actions. In many ways it’s very reminiscent of what Gene Roddenberry would have intended and in the third season of the show that’s quite surprising but then again you look at the writing and directing credits and there is some serious talent there. Andromeda may have been a syndicated and restricted budget production but in this case they produced a gem of an episode made more so by some excellent casting of the guest stars.

Thanks to everyone that’s been listening to these bonus shows, we have one more left which will be the Amanda Tapping episode of Goosebumps and then we’ll return to the regular Stargate shows so until then we hope the new year has started well and maybe this year we’ll see some movement on new Stargate even if it’s a theatrical remake/reboot.

avatar2 This weeks on Gatecast we have another bonus episode and the show will be a little longer than normal as the feature is a full length movie namely A Dog’s Breakfast. The movie was directed by David Hewlett and written by David and his wife Jane Loughman and was made in 2006 and after numerous festival screenings and huge fan support it securing a distribution deal and was released via streaming, vod and dvd within a number of markets. A Dog’s Breakfast was a project intended to fill the gap during the hiatus of producing Stargate Atlantis and in that regard they were able to secure a significant amount of hardware and talent not to mention roping in friends to make the movie come to life both in front and behind the camera. Kate Hewlett (Marilyn) stars with David as one third of the main cast with Paul McGillion (Ryan) as the final part of the trilogic in this kinda old school British domestic farce, additional support is given by Christopher Judge and Rachel Luttrell and lets not forget Mars the pooch who causes so much mischief in the movie.

DBWantedPoster

I’m not going to go into too many plot details although we hope you’ve all seen the movie so lets just say any fan of the Stargate franchise should seek it out, it’s currently on DVD (R1 & R2) as well as various streaming options and hand on heart it is a very funny movie. David did actually write a script for the series ( Star Crossed ) shown within the movie and that would have been interesting as a Galaxy Quest type look at a scifi series as it was being made and shown but nothing came of it. We have yet to see a sequel although the movie may have been a little ahead of it’s time in terms of exploiting the fanbase and online options, it’s going to be interesting to see how Debug the Hewlett’s latest movie project fares if a widespread theatrical release isn’t on the cards.

Davis's the one on the right

David is the one on the right

Next weeks show will be another bonus episode (third of four) and it’s going to be the Andromeda episode “Day of Judgement, Day of Wrath” a third season episode which features Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge alongside the regular cast such as Lexa Doig. Brad will be helping us out with the show as Alan was in the process of moving to Finland so we hope you join us for that. So with christmas behind we wish everyone a happy new year and enjoy the last episode of Gatecast released in 2013.

avatar2 It’s that time of year again and the first of our seasonal bonus episodes will be an episode of Seaquest. The show is an American scifi series set in the near future about a state of the art submarine and it’s crew in a world that is significantly different from ours yet the people are very much the same. The particular episode is from the second season called “Vapors” and stars four of the DeLuise clan beginning with Peter and Michael who are regulars on the show with Dom as a major guest star and David appearing in a bit part. In Vapors Tony (Michael) is asked by his father Nick (Dom) to help him with a problem as his mother is taking some drugs which are causing a few problems. Tony takes Lucas and Dagwood (Peter) along with him on this adventure and they visit Buddy’s a dance club and smoking establishment which is managed by David’s character. This story is a lot of fun and exploits the dynamic between the DeLuise family and does overlap with the other story line which deals with some of the issues with Bridger (Roy Scheider) and the ships CMO Dr Wendy Smith (Rosalind Allen) with further emotional ups and downs with other members of the ships crew leading to a get together at the end of the day at the Captains beach house.

A Grand Day Out

A Grand Day Out

Vapors is a fairly decent episode for someone new to the series to begin with, it’s pretty much standalone and in many ways does act as a little primer but of course the ship and crew we see in the second season is very much different to that of the first season and more so in the third season. Seaquest had many ups and downs during it’s three year life on television even with the Spielberg name involved but they aimed high and many times hit the mark by providing good adventure stories backed with science and environmental themes to educate and entertain the audience.

BFF's

His Best Friend is a Dolphin

A huge thank you to Thomas who recommended this episode for a bonus show and for joining us to record the show, always tricky to sort out a time with someone in the US or any country with a significant time difference but rewarding when it all works out. Next weeks bonus episode will be the Hewlett movie “A Dog’s Breakfast” and that’ll be just me and Alan doing the commentary, it will be a longer episode as you would expect and hopefully worth the extra time to listen too:) Links…

avatar2 SG1 along with support from SG22 are on an alien world in search of the legendary warriors of the Sodan who are a group of Jaffa who were the first to break away from their System Lord masters many thousands of years earlier. They chose not to interact with their former brethren and live apart and slowly fell into the tales and legends of the remaining Jaffa but new information encourages the SGC to search them out. The team are ambushed and while under fire Mitchell is wounded and taken by the Sodan who are unable to retrieve one of their own wounded who was captured when SG22 joins the fight. Cameron is taken to the Sodan village where he is trained to a standard which will give him a fair chance during an honour fight a consequence of drawing Sodan blood but is troubled when he sees that the Sodan are falling under the spell of the Ori. Meanwhile at the SGC the captured Sodan is questioned and they attempt to prove to him that the Ori and their Prior’s stand for everything the Sodan rejected so many generations ago.

Where'd they go?

Where’d they go?

Well what can you say about this episode that doesn’t sound like I am sucking up to the producers, writers, director and cast? Not a lot because the episode looks fantastic, the new location village is movie quality and the music haunting and doesn’t suffer from the comparison to The Last Samurai even though the plot is similar. We have some excellent guest stars as well with Tony Todd, William B. Davis and the brothers Jarvis W. and Jason George all of who really add depth and value to the episode. The story opens up the Jaffa element of the show which has for many been a dying arc and both elements of the story work very well together.

Nice swords dude!

Nice swords dude!

Well we can’t talk about this episode without mentioning quite a few references to Star Trek, the fight and it’s result hark back to Amok Time and even Cameron comments on the fact by calling Jolan “Bones” yet as always it’s done with a huge nod to the audience which makes it fun and not cheesey in any way.
We can also overlook the Tom Cruise connection, the stranger in a strange land is not a new story idea and it’s done in two ways within this episode both of which pay off but not to the level I think many of us would have hoped for.

This is the final regular episode of Gatecast in 2013, the next four episodes will be bonus shows which feature subjects which are not Stargate but have very definite ties to the franchise and we will be begin with the Seaquest episode “Vapours” which has the DeLuise clan in attendance. Many thanks for the feedback, we got some good chat over on the Facebook page and as always twitter has been busy and we are still seeing some nice business being done over on our G+ page. We would love to hear from you and there are plenty of SG1 and SGA episodes that await a guest host so if you fancy doing a show with us check out the schedule (Tab at the top of the page) and get in touch and we’ll see about sorting out a date and time. We know given enough notice that recording with guests from far flung locations and timezones is quite possible so don’t let that worry you either.

We have a couple of promo features in this episode, first up is HEXED: Sisterhood of the Supernatural and then Michael Clark’s new project Visionary Trek, check both of them out:)

Happy holidays, enjoy the show and stay safe.

avatar On an unnamed planet with a space gate the team investigate a possible Wraith presence which has been terrorising the local village population for many years, it’s referred to as the “Daimos”. As the team hunts the Wraith in the local woodland they discover a young female and track her back to her home which turns out to be a laboratory set up by a local resident to research the feeding system of the youngster in the hopes of removing the need to drain life force from humans. It turns out he rescued the child from the wreckage of a crashed Wraith ship and while there have been incidents of feeding she is fairly “clean” and that the recent attacks were by another Wraith and the discovery of a body soon after proves she did not feed on that human. Carson visits the world to evaluate the research and foolishly reveals the existence of the retro virus which based on the Iratus bug and is designed to strip away the alien elements of the DNA and leave only the humans parts. Ellia the young Wraith girl over hears them and takes the drug but it has the reverse effect causing her to lose control and attack pretty much anyone she sees including the man who has been her “father” for years and yes it does end badly but for quite a few people.

A nice welcome from the locals

A nice welcome from the locals

Instinct is the first part of an unofficial two parter and stars Jewel Staite as Ellia under quite a bit of prosthetics yet as they said it did allow them to consider her for a larger role later in the series and yes she auditioned for the part. The episode itself is beautiful to look at, there is some superb locations used for the show and the set locations were seamless as was some creative editing to get around a few minor production issues. Jewel really performed well under all the make up as did John Innes who played the local villager who rescued the young Wraith, they had great chemistry. It was interesting to see how difficult a time Ronon had in just accepting the Wraith and it was quite dramatic when he nearly lost it in the lab. Overall it was a good ensemble episode with no one main cast character standing out which allowed the guest stars to shine which was important to the story and while it doesn’t get rave reviews I think the episode worked well and leads very nicely into the next episode “Conversion”.

Something a little unexpected this week as Alan really wanted to do something to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary episode of Doctor Who and since I didn’t he roped in Jacob who was also surprised he would be recording a podcast while watching the show. So apologies if you were expecting to hear the Atlantis episode Instinct, that will be released next week but for now enjoy a pretty much unedited live discussion during the viewing of The Day of the Doctor and let Alan know what you think, he’s talked about doing a Doctor Who podcast for a while.

I’ve also been told this is not safe for kiddies so there may be some strong language at times:)

avatar2 A Jaffa is found dead in the middle of some woodland and when Gerak is questioned he is evasive and not to put too fine a point on it lies which along with the investigation into a missing CEO of a military contractor causes alarm bells to ring in the SGC. Since they know some members of the Trust were taken by a system lord and returned to Earth to provoke a world war they reason that elements are still active and have plans for Earth. This is confirmed when one particular system lord makes an appearance on television as the new head of the said company out lining his plans for the future and it becomes clear the Jaffa have been operating on Earth searching for Ba’al and have taken the missing CEO. Ba’al contacts the SGC and simply asks to be left alone but kinda ruins the mood by telling them of a bomb he has planted somewhere in America, leave him alone and he won’t destroy a city. As both the SGC and Gerak’s people converge on the location of Ba’al using Jaffa and the symbiote poison the Prometheus has located the device in Seattle and Sam is on site but with no possible way to defuse it the Asgard beaming technology is employed leaving not only a big hole in the ground but some major PR spin to be done. Teal’c returns to Dakara but Gerak turns the tables by offering up a captured Ba’al and then executing him in front of the council, his position is secure as the new leader and Teal’c returns to the SGC and then they reveal that Ba’al has been working on cloning technology and there could be more than one of him.

Ok I know cloning could be considered a little too obvious a solution for killing off a major character of recent seasons and still having him around but in the episodes to come it proves to be a damn good idea and works very well. Ex Deus Machina itself is a lot of fun, fast paced and entertaining with all the main characters used well and good use made of the recurring characters. We had some issues with the use of the beaming technology to remove an office block but while it may be possible on that scale it seemed to defy the logic of the show which had been set out.

Behind You...

Behind You…

Due to Alans ongoing education we had some scheduling issues so as Brad was ready and willing I recorded this show with him since with the christmas break in recording coming up I needed a couple more shows in the can. Last years use of bonus shows to keep a weekly release ongoing proved to be a good idea so we’ll do the same this year, not quite sure when these bonus shows will be released but I think you’ll enjoy them. Many thanks to Brad for once again earning yet another gold star and thanks to everyone that left feedback on Facebook, G+ and the main website, thanks as always to all the support on Twitter as well which is a treasure trove of Stargate passion. This weeks promo is for the excellent geeky podcast Nutty Bites and next week we’ll be back with Atlantis for the episode Instinct which marks the first appearance in the franchise for Jewel Staite.
