The US Syfy channel is currently conducting a poll on the favourite episodes from each season of SG1. The results will then determine the Viewers Choice Marathon which starts on that channel May 3rd.

Voting ends midnight of the 22nd which doesn’t leave much time.

Yes it’s as official as it’ll ever be as Brad Wright announces that the long delayed SG1, Atlantis and proposed SGU movies have been written off. His statement was made at the Creation Stargate Convention this weekend and pretty much seals the fate of the franchise for the foreseeable future.

If you have any thoughts on the news we would be delighted to put them into the next podcast and wonder ourselves if we’ll ever see any new content from the franchise outside of printed media.

A close call for SG1 has Hammond considering his future and he retires from the military but is that the whole story? Jack pushes the issues and discovers the truth which leads him to the NID along with a former nemesis and now sidekick and together they delve into the murky shadow that has been hanging over the SGC for a while.

We’ve created a monster!

Chain Reaction is a continuation of the NID storyline which is a major force in the series at this time and brings in the wonderful guest stars of Tom McBeath and Ronny Cox both of who really shine in their roles. The Jack and Harry roadtrip in itself is funny but there confrontation with the senator and his wife & dog is priceless, the result though is a nudge for Kinsey to run for president which is explored in another episode.

The new commander of the SGU is General Bauer played by Lawrence Dane and while he gives us a solid performance the writing doesn’t really have the scope within the limits of a tv episode but it works and he nearly blows the mountain up within a week, Hammond took much longer:)

All in all it’s a decent episode but perhaps a little rushed but the humour and acting makes it well worth watching and you can never get enough of Harry let alone Kinsey.

MGM have announced that Stargate Atlantis will be getting a full series Blu-ray boxset released on the 26th of July at a proposed list price of $199. I’ll be honest and say I am surprised even considering MGM are now well funded and they have a catalogue that can be exploited but is the retail market for Atlantis on Blu big enough to make the product pay even to die hard fans let alone casual fans who have never had it so good with cheap DVD and streaming options.

Still no sign of a UK release of Ark of Truth on Blu-ray so I’ve order the region locked US release for a very tasty £11.41 delivered from Amazon that equates to $11.49 plus any p&p deals for local US delivery which isn’t too bad at all.

The Tokra with Daniels help gain access to some weapons technology and hatch a plan to bring about a conflict between Apophis and Heruur. SG1 and Jacob prepare the trap only to find out that Tealc who is supposedly visiting his home world is on one of the target vessels so a rescue plan is needed.

Stargate often does an A and B storyline with it’s characters and many then merge into a main plot as The Serpents Venom is one of those with Teal’c on Chulak organising the rebellion but ending up on what of the ships that the rest of SG1 and the Tokra are intent on bringing about it’s destruction in the mayhem of the fog of war. It’s always good to Jacob who works well with Sam obviously but also Jack, the two men are very similar.

This is an effects heavy episode from the beautiful graphics required to put dozens of capital ships on screen amongst a huge orbital mine field as well as the close in work of the cargo ship and the mine floating in it’s hold. There are as always excellent performances from the guest stars and to see Heru’ur and Apophis go head to head was certainly worth it.

That’s gotta hurt!

We delve into Daniels past as a former professor dies and Daniel is reunited with a close friend and another colleague but all is not what it seems. Amongst the professors work are artefacts which are Goauld and more worryingly one seems to a be container for a symbiote, Daniel remains tight lipped but then evidence suggests there is a Goauld on the loose having escaped from another container and desperate to find it’s freedom from this world and learn the fates of those that trapped it.

The Curse is a good look into Daniels life before he published his alien theories, he seemed to be favoured within his community and was prepared to sacrifice relationships when he followed the path of his research. We get a couple of good guest stars this week with Anna Louise Plowman playing Sarah and Ben Bass playing Steven both characters bring flavour to the story and well Anna Louise does look good in flowing robes/pants.

I don’t want to be here!

Almost at the back of the queue SKY1 has finally announced that SGU will return to the screens on the 11th of April at 8pm (that’s a monday). You know I probably wouldn’t have cancelled my SKY subscription if they had taken on the funding of a third season, the SG franchise has been a cornerstone of SKY1 since the pilot.

They say the SGC never bring back anything with military application but then Area51 wheel out the X-301 it kinda proves that wrong, the merging of two wrecked Death Gliders along with some human tech has produced a space capable aircraft which can take the fight into orbit.

Of course problems crop up, always the case with any X plane but not normally one where the aircraft is taken over by some rogue code and flys it off into deep space in one of the most advanced anti-theft devices ever seen. Jack and Teal’c go along for the ride and it’s left  pretty much pure to chance that a solution is found and implemented.

Tangent is a visual effects and special effects heavy episode and many may consider two guys stuck in a cockpit to be a rather boring idea but the pacing is good and the antics of the SGC in rescue attempts adds to the suspense even if we know they are good to be saved.

The second Stargate Live Auction kicks off tonight (19th) at 10am PST.

As with the first there are hundreds of props from the series including the MALP, SGC wall logo and dozens of costumes, guns and set pieces. Alas as before the cost of insurance and shipping prevents me from even attempting to win a piece of my favourite show but I do have the last catalogue which is gorgeous and have the pdf of the second catalogue.

The event is being hosted by LiveAuctioneers for Propworx.

Watching the first days lots and the auction is going well, some really nice stuff but prices are as you might expect buoyant.

The SGC or more accurately Jack receives a phone call from a mysterious guy who seems to know an awful lot about the existence of the Stargate as well as every conspiracy in the book. A meeting reveals what seems to be a harmless kook but he has gate co-ordinates and it’s not paranoia when a group of men are actually watching you and they then kidnap Sam and Daniel. The truth is eventually uncovered and it’s all about Murray.

Don’t I Know You?

Point of No Return makes good use of the Vancouver woodland to actually mimic real Earth trees which makes a nice change and this episode has extensive location shooting. Our hapless hero Marty is played wonderfully by Willie Garson an actor you may not know the name of but will certainly recognise and one the protagonist is played by Matthew Bennett both actors return to the show at a later date. This is a fun episode which exploits the dynamic of the main cast and adds an excellent character who works very well especially with Jack and Teal’c as his humour plays counterpoint to the stoicism and suspicion of the two SG1 members.

Ok folks it’s the time to vote for your favourite episode from the fourth season of SG1. At this point we’ve covered around half the season but I suspect most of you are not new to the show so you can vote in good faith.

We seem to be having issues integrating our previous Polldaddy app with WordPress so for now here is the link to the Poll itself. The poll will remain open for a couple of months and the results used in the recap show which will be along after the season 4 finale.

My esteemed co-host Alan is currently crossing the Atlantic (in a plane) on his way to a US vacation in which he will tour the states and met up with friends and accountancies. Eventually he will hit Dallas via Pittsburgh, West Virgina and New Hampshire for the Galactic Watercooler international meet up and be immersed into the hive mind, coverage of the event can be found on their website as well as podcasts in due time.

Have a great time Alan and you won’t be missed until I run out of the pre-recorded shows:)

Something is very wrong, SG1 are no longer themselves and inhabit a dark dank underground world where they toil in a power plant believing they are ensuring the survival of their race. The fly in this dastardly plan is Tealc who thanks to his symbiote has vague memories of his companions and bit by bit the memories return. Meanwhile the General is being snowed by the leader of this world and it’s the lure of trade (gate addresses for technology) that took SG1 to the world but Calder is ruthless in protecting their secrets. In this weeks episode we also have feedback and a SG1 book review of City of the Gods by Sonny Whitelaw.

So sweet
