The first instalment of the new Stargate SG1 action/adventure game is due in March from MGM and Arkalis Interactive. Once again it’s aimed at the tablet market and will include the original actors providing the voice work for some pretty decent graphics.
After the MALP makes contact with a people from the industrial world Tegalus the three member SG1 pays them a visit and discovers a society that has two powerful cultures in a cold war state with a wild card religious element who believe the Gods of the Stargate seeded their world and will return. The dominoes start falling as this cult gains power and influence and provokes a global war and Daniel badly injured gets stuck on the planet.
First off this is a beautiful looking episode, the locations look stunning and are shot with a warmth we don’t normally see when trudging through the various heavily forested worlds that are so common in the galaxy.
The bunkers and underground tunnels look good with the control room mixing an old school WW2 look with a dash of sophistication and hats off to the pyro, stunt and weapons specialists who really knocked it out of the park.
The overall story though doesn’t quite live up to the production, it’s a little simplistic but I guess they only have 42 minutes so they have to cover a lot of ground to make it all work. The idea that a visit from a SG unit results in millions dead simply through cultural contamination is certainly worth telling. In most episodes it’s normal for events to happen on a smaller scale and of those many would be considered beneficial by the peoples the SGC visit. This isn’t the case here and even though we don’t see the long term rebuilding or maybe years of digging out the zealots we do know this world will never be the same and maybe ripe for the appearance of another quasi-religious group and power play.
This weeks promo is from Hexed a tv discussion and review podcast focusing on genre television, well worth checking out.
Next week we are going back to Atlantis for the episode Suspicion as the Wraith seemingly turn up on almost every world the expedition visits and the fingers point to one of Teyla’s people. Many thanks for the support over the holidays, we got decent numbers for our bonus shows which pretty much means we’ll do that again but for the now it’s Stargate all the way alternating between SG1 season 8 and SGA season 1.
As always you can listen and interact with us via this website, email, twitter, stitcher and google+ and of course itunes with it’s lovely ratings and review options, subtle hint yes?

As always an entertaining perspective on a well known movie, I can highly recommend you taking the time to have a good dig around the SF Debris site, you’ll find reviews/opinions and some well produced offerings from Trek through Red Dwarf to Howard The Duck. If you like MS3TK or anything similar then you’ll enjoy the “opinions” presented here especially if you are a fan of the particular show or movie:)
Richard Dean Anderson guest stars in Kiss Kiss Bang Bangalore a season seventeen episode of the animated comedy The Simpsons. He plays himself in a story which involves a Stargate SG1 convention in Springfield and the over enthusiastic attentions of two devoted MacGyver fans with the aid of some rope and a hammer. During the fun and games Mr Burns has outsourced the nuclear power plant to India and Homer as the sole union member who gets to retain his job is sent overseas to run the facility with some unexpected consequences.
The Simpsons is well known for making full use of it’s famous guest stars playing themselves and in this case spinning a Stargate and MacGyver tale around Richard Dean Anderson is inspired as it also pokes fun at the culture of fandom a few years before it really became well I guess mainstream and accepted in mass media. RDA has serious fun sending up his MacGyver persona the role which made him a global celebrity in the hit series. The second story in the episode follows Homer as he moves to India to run the outsourced nuclear power plant, a healthy dose of satire aimed squarely at the US and a few other societies that are pricing themselves out of manufacturing and maybe even seeing it as beneath them.
Next week should be the final bonus episode of this mini-break from dedicated Stargate episodes with a Burn Notice episode “Lesser Evil” featuring Michael Shanks as a guest star. We hope you’ve had a good christmas and we wish everyone a happy new year with special mention to those who celebrate other seasonal events, through the gate we are all one family.

Amanda Tapping has tweeted that she has been doing some voice work for a new SG1 project, an extension of the recent Stargate app perhaps which came with a promise of new features.

Research in to the former outpost of the Ancients in the Antarctic continues and Daniel discovers the location of the Lost City or at least an eight symbol address which will gate them to another galaxy, perhaps the original home of the Ancients or the hoped for Atlantis. Weir now no longer in command of the SGC heads up the expedition with a military contingent but she has civilian oversight and initially all goes well until power issues forces early exploration of a new “phone book” of gate symbols. The expedition finds friends and makes enemies but there is no way home so exploring this new galaxy is the only way to find Ancient power sources and technology in which to enhance the city of Atlantis and save not only themselves but both galaxies.
SGA Rising is a brilliant series opener, it obviously benefits from the 7 years of work and experience from the Stargate SG1 people both from behind and in front of the camera but you really can’t ask for anything more to kick off a new show. There is humour, action and drama all wrapped up in a very high standard of production making full use of the newest HD camera technology while using tried and trusted techniques when required.
It would be easy to try to mirror this new batch of characters with those that came before them but the show simply feels fresher and certainly a much younger looking cast giving the show a more action orientated look to it but it’s still very much Stargate. Rising was broadcast as an extended feature in the US and Canada while the UK had it shown in two parts, the episode is offered in it’s extended format on the DVD and Blu-ray with a commentary by Brad, Robert and Martin.
The casting of Robert Patrick as the commander of the military was inspired he has the chops to do the role without breaking a sweat and carries off the hard ass Colonel role easily and offers just enough to get you involved before as a main guest stars he steps aside for the long term cast to take over. In that respect getting David Hewlett to reprise his McKay role makes so much sense it’s amazing it wasn’t really their initial plan but who else could have played this role and what other character traits would you want to let everyone else bounce off of.
Many thanks to Jeff for joining us in this uber recording session, he skyped over from the states and really make this episode work well, he will be returning for future episodes which on that subject if you want to join us then just get in touch and we’ll see what we can work out:)
This weeks promo is from Treks In Scifi one of my favourite Star Trek podcasts, it has been around for many many years so check it out, next week we are back with SG1 and covering the episode “Lockdown” in which an old enemy returns. I thought this was fitting as we have just kicked off our SG1 eighth season coverage, beautifully edited and a very nice piece of music.
This piece of art or maybe beautification on an epic scale is being constructed in China, lets be honest these days it’s there or an oil rich middle eastern nation doing this sort of thing. This is a 157 meter high ring being built in the city of Fushun and glows in the dark, sweet:)

It was Friday October 28th 1994 when an American/French scifi adventure movie co-production opened in the US, directed by Roland Emmerich and produced by Dean Devlin Stargate came to fruition.
An alien piece of technology is discovered in a dig site surrounding the Great Pyramid and the device is taken to the US under military control, decades of research lead nowhere until Daniel Jackson an author and archaeologist who believes the Egyptian culture had been influenced by alien life is brought on board. He solves the riddle of the device and with the Stargate activated a group of Airforce personnel along with Jackson travel to an alien world and discover a human culture enslaved by the ancient Sun God Ra complete with the Egyptian paraphernalia and pyramid spaceship.
As you would expect the team are at cross purposes, destroy the gate to prevent this Ra from returning to Earth now the portal has been opened or lead these people into a rebellion to throw down this despotic being who rules with fear and force.
The movie made a modest box office return in the US but it’s worldwide receipts were excellent pushing this $55 million movie into serious profit returning $196 million yet no sequel was on the horizon despite the goal of a movie trilogy. It wasn’t until a few years later when MGM who owned certain rights (distributed the feature alongside Canal+) were brought a project for a TV series based on the movie by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner, this series became Stargate SG1 and premièred on Showtime to both popular and critical acclaim and worldwide acceptance.
