This is our second promo done by yours truly with the aid of some reverb and pitch shifting, it’s not quite Goauld but I had good intentions:)

Again feel free to use this or any other promo we have in your podcast and let us know so we can return the favour.

We are actively trying to expand our listenership with Facebook and other listings plus we finally have a couple of promos and some more stuff in the works. Our thanks to Jeffrey R DeRego for taking the time to help us out.

We would be delighted if any podcast out there would play a promo and in return we would be more than happy to play theirs.

We have ventured into the murky world of Facebook.

I am not going to kid you and claim it’s anything but a way to reach more people and connect with fellow fans and listeners in the podcast and other communities but hey doesn’t do any harm. We would be delighted if you add us and spread the word.

Daniel as promised returns to Abydos one year after he left to give word on his search to Kasuf and is rather surprised to discover who he is waiting for him. Meanwhile back on Earth Jack and Sam are in Washington to receive the Air Medal for their part in thwarting the Goauld invasion and Jack meets a reporter who has intimate knowledge of the SGC programme and Sam learns of her fathers illness.

This episode is pretty much a double A storyline with both elements being pivotal in the overall arc of the series. Daniel and Tealc on Abydos deal with Sharae/Amaunet and her child along with Apophis and Heruur while the conspiracy and secrecy of the SGC and the lengths people will go to protect them are explored by Jack. The terminal illness of Jacob Carter (Carmen Argenziano) opens up possibilities in future episodes which pan out very well indeed.

Secrets is an excellent episode and only perhaps after the fact do you realise how much groundwork is being laid down for future episodes/seasons. We get the return of Kasuf who was in the theatrical movie and Sharae who has been MIA since the series pilot along with a new human character and the increased impact of another system lord.

Bra’tak visits the SGC with news about Rya’c who has been taken by Apophis and filled with a mighty fury Teal’c and the rest of SG1 return to Chulak. The bad news continues as Teal’c discovers he is now considered dead and his wife has remarried to a friend and comrade in arms and even worse the rescue attempt fails when Rya’c himself raises the alarm and swears allegiance to the system lords while denouncing his father.

Family is not the best episode of SG1, not even the best in season two and doesn’t even standup to the much better Bloodlines from the first season when fleshing out the backstory of Teal’c. Not directly related but Drey’auc is played by a new actress (Brook Parker) and while she does the job continuity would have been more of a bonus if the original actress (Salli Richardson) had played the role.

A visit to a dead world reveals a lone energy signature and on investigation and sphere is found and yep they bring it back to the SGC. Continuing the foolhardy approach they scan, prod and poke the alien ball until it reacts and before it can be thrown back through the gate it anchors itself to the walls and in the process skewers Jack!

Some sort of infection of the very structure of the SGC and it’s personnel is then discovered and soon questions about an intelligence behind the “infection” are raised.

Message in a Bottle was a very good episode even with plot elements very similar to The Andromeda Strain but it had some excellent Jack and Teal’c moments and even some funnies with a young Lieutenant who has a crush on Sam but like so many of her suitors suffers for his feelings:)

Teryl looked yummy in this episode and we have email.

Daniel falls off the deep end after an incident on a world which seems to follow the Goa’uld path yet has no system lord. After being injured in an escape attempt Shyla the daughter of the ruler played by Heather Hanson seduces Daniel and when exposed repeatedly to the Sarcophagus his attitudes change along with a very me first outlook so common in the system lords.

We both had little or no recollection of this episode which speaks volumes despite it having a good pedigree writing and directing wise and at times we struggled for things to say but thankfully no recording issues this time around.

A MALP mission temps SG1 into visiting an idyllic world and within a domed structure they are restrained by 4 devices which seems to transport them into their past where events play out again and again. Jack is faced with a special ops mission that failed leading to the death of his former commander and Daniel revisits the deaths of his parents.

On the surface this episode seems a little light but I think it actually works quite well and Dwight Shultz plays The part of the Gamekeeper very well with 1 part cheese and 1 part foreboding. Jay Acovone returns to the show playing Kawalsky and just re-enforces what a good character  he played in the early days.

Again recording issues raised their ugly head and meant the editing and posting of the ep was delayed, we need to get this sorted out if only to make sure 1 new ep per week isn’t like climbing Everest:)

Sg1 fall foul of a draconian legal system which tolerates no divergence from the letter of the law. In helping or more accurately simply meeting a thief they are charged with aiding and abetting plus trespass and carrying weapons and the sentence is life imprisonment.

The people of this world use the Stargate as a one way transport to a penal facility and on arrival SG1 find a small society of mainly men who are controlled or say influenced by one intelligent and resourceful woman who herself was guilty after thousands died under her care.

Overall a good episode with an interesting and twisty new character in Linea played by Bonnie Bartlett and a very smart looking studio set, shame about the dodgy animation on some of the gate shots.

Once again apologies for the slight delay and the audio quality. The VOIP recording app let us down for the second week running meaning the scheduled recording session this week was used to fix last weeks but we are trying another app and hopefully it should be more reliable.

SG teams defend the people of Nassya under attack from death gliders and while trying to save a badly injured man Sam is possessed by a Goa’uld and returns to Earth with no one the wiser. She is desperate to escape the confines of the SGC but her visit with Cassandra has revealed the truth and Sam is locked up and time is running out before the hunter finds and kills the Goa’uld hiding inside Sam.

First off apologises for anyone who listens to this “commentary” while watching the episode, the recording had issues mid-way through and sync was all over the place, I eventually gave up and went for close enough.

The technical stuff aside we both enjoyed In The Line of Duty and marvelled at how good the episode teaser looked despite this ep supposedly being a budget limited production confirmed by Jonathan Glassner himself. A major revelation in the story opens up much of what will interest the SG1 story arc for the next season or two, good times are a coming:)

The second season kicks off as Apophis prepares his attack on the Earth while SG1 are running around the ship putting charges of C4 in every nook and cranny. It doesn’t go according to plan (if there was a plan) until an old ally appears and the fight taken to the Goa’uld once again.

Colonel Samuels makes an ass of himself, Daniel is a space monkey and after all manner of rough and tumble Sam’s hair is perfect:)

This is the first show proper of the year and we have a few plans to improve things but it make take longer than anticipated. As always we welcome feedback in any form about any aspect of the episode or podcast overall.
As mentioned in the show…

Hubble was launched in 1990 so it was certainly up there when the ships arrived, it may not have been in a position to see them and of course someone would need to know where to point it in the first place. The wooly hat can indeed be bought with a SG1 badge or in this case Teal’cs emblem, you find the “beanie” hat here.

Just a quick update on the pricing for both SG1 and Atlantis full season boxsets each side of the Atlantic thanks to Amazon, prices in the UK are pretty much similar retailer to retailer but I can’t speak for the US where the likes of Wallmart etc can undercut even large online dealers.

If anyone has better deals then feel free to email or use the comment option.

UK

SG1 Full series plus Ark of Truth and Continuum £91.48

Atlantis Full Series £65.98

US

SG1 Full Series Collection $104.49

Atlantis The Complete Series $115.99

Welcome folks to the final podcast for 2009, it should have been the State of the Podcast but events conspired to deprive us of prep and recording time not to mention screwing up the recording when we finally did get around to the discussion:)

Anyhow to sign off the year I’ve put together what we did salvage and a brief chat on which episodes from season1 should be watched by someone who wants to understand the basics without being bogged down in filler or simply haven’t the time to devote to a show or risk getting the wrong idea.

As always we are open to anyone sending in a list of first (and next year second) season eps which they think are a must watch or simply their favourites or heaven forbid the hated ones:)

avatar The season 1 finale is upon us as the SGC deals with it’s closure at the hands of Kinsey while the threat of a Goa’uld invasion still hangs over their head. Taking the decision they would feel like idiots if they did nothing and the world ended they gate to the  co-ordinates provided by Daniel as seen in the episode “There but for the Grace of God” and discover who and what is lurking in the depths of space intent on destruction and general naughtiness.

This was an excellent season finale bring back a couple of characters we’ve seen before and ending with a good cliffhanger, plenty of humour as well which was quite a feat given the subject matter.

We had a few technical issues with the recording when Alan was talking to himself for quite a while before he noticed I wasn’t there (perhaps I should chime in more often) but the wonders of editing and of course the bonus of some listener email:)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

avatar Doom and Gloom surround the SGC as Senator Kinsey a high ranking member of the appropriations committee and just recently privy to the existence of the SGC  pays a visit with a very definite agenda.

Aided and abetted by Col Samuels he examines various mission reports and uses them as the cornerstone of the argument to close down the SGC and bury the gate. Kinsey neither recognises the threat of the Goa’uld nor the value of the missions to the scientific community, it does after all cost $7.2 Billion a year to run the operation.

Politics is an out and out clipshow but done with style and enough new content to make the episode worthwhile and made even better by a terrific performance from Ronnie Cox in his first appearance as the mean and slimy politician.
