avatar A routine mission discovers another dead world with a warning for all Jaffa and while Daniel is exploring the complex he finds a treasure trove of artefacts and being Daniel he can’t help but touch. Well he learnt the hard way about burning your fingers when he finds himself back on Earth which is not quite the same place he left and the remainder of SG1 are playing very different roles.

The Go’auld are very much a known quantity though and with echos of Independence Day the year before the Earth trembles with the wraith of Apophis!!!

Now this was an excellent episode both in terms of single ep story telling but synced into the overall arc beautifully even though we didn’t get the huge pay off until the episode after next.

avatar Under heavy alien weapons fire SG1 scramble back through the gate but only Daniel and Teal’c    arrive at the SGC, unbeknown to the them Sam and Jack were deposited through a previously unknown gate buried in what seems to be a glacier on an alien world. Jack is seriously hurt and Sam with no food and only ice melt struggles to fix the gates DHD and make the attempt to dial Earth while the SGC search numerous worlds for evidence of those MIA.

This weeks podcast was joined by Scott via conference call and the overall sound quality took a hit thanks to bouncing voice data back and forth across the Atlantic but still a lot better than the early days:)

Surprisingly with three of us a lot more wasn’t said leading to some issues with syncing up to the episode a problem for those who do listen while watching the show instead of just listening to us rabbit on and picturing the scenes in the cinema of the mind.

Solitudes is a quality episode and for me one of the highlights of the first season if not the whole series and I suspect they got a lot of onscreen goodies for very little money including serious screentime for Walter and Siler.

Our gang of intrepid explorers visit P3X989 only to discover a deserted complex however after fiddling with stuff they are zapped and awake to find themselves wearing new clothes and minus weapons etc with the over friendly Harlan proclaiming they are “better”.

Returning to the SGC the truth is revealed and the team return to the planet to discover exactly who and what has been going on, much pipe fixing and banter ensue as Harlan realises it’s not better.

When the family go away you ask them to bring you something back and well that’s exactly what SG1 did when visiting a world which they find on the brink of destruction. A number of survivors are found surrounding the gate and are taken to Earth but they are not that grateful and have  their own Star Trek type prime directive. They see the SGC and Earth in general as primitive and technology and knowledge can not be shared which brings out Colonel Maybourne (boo hiss) who would never let compassion get in the way of getting what he wants.

This is the Tollans first appearance in the show and with it we see the arrogance of the superior race from Omoc but the openness from Narim which bodes well for the future. Guest appearances from Lya (NOX) and Tuplo (Broca Divide) are welcome nods to continuity and Sams attempts at a love life fall a little short and well the theme is set for her romances:)

SG1 visit an off world base on Hanka which houses a telescope and do research on a Black Hole and find both SG7 and the local inhabitants dead from what looks like a biological incident. One survivor a young girl named Cassandra is found and is taken back to Earth where scans reveal she is infected with some sort of technology. Meanwhile back on the plant Jack and Teal’c come under attack from the Goa’uld Nirrti only to find that the girl is now a threat to the whole SGC facility and time is running out.

A good Carter episode and some fun times with Jack revelling in his knowledge of astronomy, it’s so rare Jacks knows what Sam is on about:)

A routine mission has a surprise in store for Teal’c as he had visited this world under the service of Apophis and in the process killed someone. Driven by vengeance or is it justice Hanno the son of the murdered man puts Teal’c on trial for his life.

The question then becomes what if anything are SG1 and the SGC prepared to do and either way will Teal’c allow them to intervene.

David McNally guest stars as Hanno and Michasha Armstrong as Shak’l.

There were a number of issues during the recording of this episode from missing dvd’s, smudgy dvd’s and other things but it didn’t come out too bad.

While exploring a Mayan pyramid an Egyptian Sarcophagus is found and unfortunately for the people that opened it the long dormant but now very much awake Hathor is revealed and she ain’t happy but looks stunning.

Drawn to the SGC she is able to take control of the men and plans to take over the base and freed from the control of Ra she would be able to raise a while new Jaffa army to rule the galaxy. However sisters are doing it for themselves with a little help from Teal’c.

An enjoyable episode and very much a favourite of Alan and I liked it as well but resisted making suggestive comments about Hathor and her actions/outfit throughout the discussion:)

Under pressure from the Secretary of Defence SG1 visit a world where a creature which has stealth capabilities resides, it’s secrets are desired by Apophis and other system lords and as always things don’t go as smoothly as planned.

Perhaps that is an understatement given what does happen but hey it all works out and the moral of the story is driven home quite emphatically. Armin Shimerman makes his one and only appearance in the franchise as Anteaus the “father” of the Nox family SG1 meet.

Mixed opinions on the episode, not for the first time:)

Labour unions in Canada currently have around 4 million members (30% of the workforce) and Maple syrup is indeed made from the sap of maples and under goes a process where the water is evaporated out to leave the sweet syrup.

Disaster strikes when Daniel is killed on a mission, the remaining members return to the SGC in shock yet even though they know he is dead something is still not quite right…

While I had seen this episode on it’s initial broadcast I couldn’t recall much about it so it was like a new story, not a good one but they can’t all be. Gerard Plunkett makes his second SG1 appearance as Nem.

Alan talks about a glider flying through the stargate during the title sequence, while we do see a Goa’uld craft do this in a later episode this wasn’t it.

Glider flying over the gate.

Experiments in removing the Goa’uld larva from Teal’c fail but lead him to return to his home world Chulak to prevent his son Rya’c from being implanted. The only problem is that Teal’c denied having any ties to his former world and letting him return would risk the secrets of the SGC being revealed.

An interesting episode as it reveals more of the life of a high ranking Jaffa warrior under the service of a strong system lord. We meet Drey’auc played by Salli Richardson-Whitfield perhaps better known as Allison Blake from Eureka and you wonder if Teal’c felt a little downtrodden which lead him to look for ways off world:)

Comments welcome.

Newly discovered top secret files from the Pentagon reveal more of the history of the Stargate and footage of it’s activation as one intrepid guy journeys through the gate which leads Daniel back to Catherine Langford to find answers to questions that had never been asked.

This is a entertaining episode, some funny moments yet reveals the scope of Daniels desire for knowledge and the belief that is a reason to exist. Introducing another person from the Stargate movie gives the TV versions a little more backbone and while Catherine is played by a different actress it’s no big deal after all Daniel is not Spader.

The SG-1 team is sent after the SG-9 team that has failed to return. They find that SG-9’s captain, having been treated like a god by planetary inhabitants, is drunk with power and is tyrannizing them. Can they overcome him?

Once again edited by my kind co-host Jarrak, who put together that cool intro. Also Jack says “to oz” at one point in this episode.

Indeed count remains at zero however 🙁 so we’re nought for 5

I know you can do better folks, come on, supply an intro, it’ll be fun.
