Ramifications from the fall out between Rush and Young continue as the chasm between the military and civilian personal gets wider. The aliens it seems have ways of tracking the Destiny which again gives us a clearer understanding of how manipulative Rush can be.
In the second part of the story Sam has returned to Earth to visit her dying father with the slim chance that Jacob could not only survive but serve his country once more by helping the Tokra Selmak. Meanwhile the system lords are on the way and the coincidence is too much, is there a spy amongst the Tokra and can the planet be evacuated before the Goauld ships arrive.
While the first part of this story was very talkie there is more action in the second but surprisingly doesn’t feel any faster, talking heads can still be very fascinating when the script is good and in this case the two parter has been excellent. The long term ramifications of this alliance are felt over the next few seasons but as we discussed the Tokra never really became big players but they did tend to pop in the right place at the right time.
We have feedback from Stephen via Facebook, cheers:)
So I’ve just finished watching the first new episode of SGU for some time and I came away pretty satisfied. We see the crew dealing with the loss of Rush with the obvious differing opinions from within the camps and that’s made worse by a “malfunction” in the communication stones prior to an IOA report being sent. Things start to ramp up as the mysterious ship which left the Destiny earlier in the season is seen again bringing it’s own issues to the general mix of back stabbing and double dealing.
Sam is plagued by the memories of Jolinar and in one vision the gate address of a world is seen and SG1 visits in the hopes of finding the Tokra and making them an ally. Alas the mindset of the Tokra sees no benefit in joining the people of the Tauri and with security in mind the members of the SGC will not be allowed to return home.
The Tok’ra at least the first of the double bill is pretty heavy in dialogue both as the SGC and Tok’ra get to know eachother but also the B plot with Hammond interacting with Jacob whose health has taken a turn for the worse. Both Sarah Douglas and JR Bourne are both excellent guest stars who play the merged characters of Garshaw and Lantash very well and Carmen Argenziano again proving to be a strong presence.
This is our third promo (we are on a roll) and pretty much no gimmicks not that our friend Jeff is a gimmick but the Goauld voice effects in the previous one certainly were.
Once again feel free to use it in your podcast and let us know so we can play your promo or simply give your cast a mention.
SG1 visit a world seemingly of high technology but devoid of humanoid life but not all life. Tealc is surprised when a large insect like creature lands on him and when provoked it stings him and within seconds it’s poison is tearing his body apart and SG1 flee the planet.
Back on Earth the NID appropriate Tealc to study the infection but he escapes and hides out in a near by city were he meets Ally a young girl who befriends him while both the SGC and NID try to find him for two very different reasons.
We are actively trying to expand our listenership with Facebook and other listings plus we finally have a couple of promos and some more stuff in the works. Our thanks to Jeffrey R DeRego for taking the time to help us out.
We would be delighted if any podcast out there would play a promo and in return we would be more than happy to play theirs.
We have ventured into the murky world of Facebook.
I am not going to kid you and claim it’s anything but a way to reach more people and connect with fellow fans and listeners in the podcast and other communities but hey doesn’t do any harm. We would be delighted if you add us and spread the word.
Daniel as promised returns to Abydos one year after he left to give word on his search to Kasuf and is rather surprised to discover who he is waiting for him. Meanwhile back on Earth Jack and Sam are in Washington to receive the Air Medal for their part in thwarting the Goauld invasion and Jack meets a reporter who has intimate knowledge of the SGC programme and Sam learns of her fathers illness.
This episode is pretty much a double A storyline with both elements being pivotal in the overall arc of the series. Daniel and Tealc on Abydos deal with Sharae/Amaunet and her child along with Apophis and Heruur while the conspiracy and secrecy of the SGC and the lengths people will go to protect them are explored by Jack. The terminal illness of Jacob Carter (Carmen Argenziano) opens up possibilities in future episodes which pan out very well indeed.
Secrets is an excellent episode and only perhaps after the fact do you realise how much groundwork is being laid down for future episodes/seasons. We get the return of Kasuf who was in the theatrical movie and Sharae who has been MIA since the series pilot along with a new human character and the increased impact of another system lord.
Bra’tak visits the SGC with news about Rya’c who has been taken by Apophis and filled with a mighty fury Teal’c and the rest of SG1 return to Chulak. The bad news continues as Teal’c discovers he is now considered dead and his wife has remarried to a friend and comrade in arms and even worse the rescue attempt fails when Rya’c himself raises the alarm and swears allegiance to the system lords while denouncing his father.
Family is not the best episode of SG1, not even the best in season two and doesn’t even standup to the much better Bloodlines from the first season when fleshing out the backstory of Teal’c. Not directly related but Drey’auc is played by a new actress (Brook Parker) and while she does the job continuity would have been more of a bonus if the original actress (Salli Richardson) had played the role.
A visit to a dead world reveals a lone energy signature and on investigation and sphere is found and yep they bring it back to the SGC. Continuing the foolhardy approach they scan, prod and poke the alien ball until it reacts and before it can be thrown back through the gate it anchors itself to the walls and in the process skewers Jack!
Some sort of infection of the very structure of the SGC and it’s personnel is then discovered and soon questions about an intelligence behind the “infection” are raised.
Message in a Bottle was a very good episode even with plot elements very similar to The Andromeda Strain but it had some excellent Jack and Teal’c moments and even some funnies with a young Lieutenant who has a crush on Sam but like so many of her suitors suffers for his feelings:)
Teryl looked yummy in this episode and we have email.
A call for hep from the people of Cimmeria who SG1 had visited in the episode Thor’s Hammer reveals that the destruction of the Hammer has allowed a System Lord to invade the world. Sg1 gate to the planet and learn of a second “test” left by Thor and in the belief it will reveal a weapon to defend the plant Daniel, Sam and Gairwyn (Tamsin Kelsey) are teleported away. Meanwhile Jack and Teal’c along with Olaf (Andrew Kavadas) play hunt the rabbit with the Jaffa roaming the land.
Thor’s Chariot is a magnificent episode as we see the SGC having to deal with the direct consequences of the interference on another people. We also meet a new System Lord a son of Apophis and Hathor named Heru’ur and the race behind the Hammer is also revealed as pretty much the iconic “greys”.
