Carmen Argenziano (Rick) and Michael DeLuise (Jo Jo) guest starred in “You Wanna See Something?” the eleventh episode of Bunheads which aired in the US a couple of weeks ago on ABC Family.

I only just got around to watching the episode but I highly recommend the show for it’s jovial and whimsical humour.

avatar2 After another close call with the Wraith on a scouting mission it has become apparent that it is too much of a coincidence given the size of the galaxy and the Pegasus gate system. The suspicion is raised and the finger pointed at the Athosian contingent of the city and despite concerns by Sheppard it is Weir who decides to investigate each of the natives and look for signs of a collaborator.
A solution may have been found with the discovery of a large area of land on the planet and the Athosians offer to settle there and build a community with an assurance of access to the gate when required, this will prevent them from providing any intel to the Wraith but on the flipside it could just as easily clear their name totally. The source of the information leak is however discovered and it is an Athosian and an opportunity arises to lay a trap and capture a Wraith for interrogation and study.

Suspicion (27)

Suspicion is one of those episodes that has most of the main characters at each others throats, not literally but certainly it divides how the humans view the Athosians and while the reasoning had some logic there were quite a few assumptions being made. The discovery of the cities gates to the jumper bay is however a game changer, it allows for the defence of the city with the aircraft as well eventually solving the problem of long term food supply and a permanent home for the Athosians.

Suspicion (26)

Sgt Bates is a bit of a dick though, ultimately he’s right but his reasoning is based more on emotion and the old chestnut of outsiders always being the scape dogs yet Halling accepts the situation with grace and style which really makes the humans of Atlantis look like immature children. All in all not a bad episode and the capture of the Wraith opens up a good story line in episodes to come.

This weeks featured promo is from Trek News & Views a Star Trek podcast from the UK hosted by Colin and next week we are back in the SGC with SG1 episode “Avatar”, fun and games with first person shooters. Many thanks to Brad for the voice mail and the continued support via Twitter, Google+ and Facebook and you can also find us on itunes and Stitcher Internet Radio.

avatar After the MALP makes contact with a people from the industrial world Tegalus the three member SG1 pays them a visit and discovers a society that has two powerful cultures in a cold war state with a wild card religious element who believe the Gods of the Stargate seeded their world and will return. The dominoes start falling as this cult gains power and influence and provokes a global war and Daniel badly injured gets stuck on the planet.

First off this is a beautiful looking episode, the locations look stunning and are shot with a warmth we don’t normally see when trudging through the various heavily forested worlds that are so common in the galaxy.

Now if Jack asked Sam to fish here.

Now if Jack asked Sam to fish here.

The bunkers and underground tunnels look good with the control room mixing an old school WW2 look with a dash of sophistication and hats off to the pyro, stunt and weapons specialists who really knocked it out of the park.
The overall story though doesn’t quite live up to the production, it’s a little simplistic but I guess they only have 42 minutes so they have to cover a lot of ground to make it all work. The idea that a visit from a SG unit results in millions dead simply through cultural contamination is certainly worth telling. In most episodes it’s normal for events to happen on a smaller scale and of those many would be considered beneficial by the peoples the SGC visit. This isn’t the case here and even though we don’t see the long term rebuilding or maybe years of digging out the zealots we do know this world will never be the same and maybe ripe for the appearance of another quasi-religious group and power play.

A man alone.

A man alone.

This weeks promo is from Hexed a tv discussion and review podcast focusing on genre television, well worth checking out.
Next week we are going back to Atlantis for the episode Suspicion as the Wraith seemingly turn up on almost every world the expedition visits and the fingers point to one of Teyla’s people. Many thanks for the support over the holidays, we got decent numbers for our bonus shows which pretty much means we’ll do that again but for the now it’s Stargate all the way alternating between SG1 season 8 and SGA season 1.
As always you can listen and interact with us via this website, email, twitter, stitcher and google+ and of course itunes with it’s lovely ratings and review options, subtle hint yes?

The Bouquet is Michael Shanks latest movie, alas not a theatrical feature but a family friendly straight to disc/ondemand and television but there is a market for that and all actors want to work even if it’s not stretching their talents to the max. The movie stars Kristy Swanson and Danny Glover and tells the tale of a struggling family florist whose wayward daughter/sister returns to the fold to save the family and it’s business. avatar For the final bonus episode we are watching and discussing the Burn Notice season two finale Lesser Evil which has Michael Shanks as a guest star playing Michael Westens nemesis Victor, the episode also features Tricia Helfer. In this episode the season arc concludes as Michael goes on the offensive against the Management and their operatives in an attempt to win his freedom.

Michael Shanks only appeared in four episodes of Burn Notice playing the former spy Victor who is now the operative of the Management tasked by his handler Carla (Tricia Helfer) to corral Michael and convince him to play ball. Of course in Burn Notice the plot is full of twists and turns and it was Victor who was often pivotal in setting events in motion by appearing in the right place at maybe the wrong time. The finale of the second season finally gives us plenty of interaction between Victor and Michael which is full of good dialogue and acting from both performers and provides both drama and tension with lots of action. Carla was a recurring character in the second season and Tricia is always a delight to watch perform on screen, she was able to play the “bitch” with flare and style putting Michael in his place time and time again with a ruthlessness few could match and between Tricia and Shanks we got two very good guest stars this year. As always Gabrielle (Fiona), Bruce (Sam) and Sharon (Madeline) provide the strong support a complex spy/action drama requires, each of them brings something to the story which allows Jeffrey (Michael) to remain center stage and work his magic.

BN (13)

We can highly recommend Burn Notice, it’s just finished it’s sixth season and combines action, humour and drama with a spirit that in a small way echoes some of the 80’s serials as the “heroes” struggle against overwhelming odds making the most of every day items to fight off drug dealers, spies and simply some bad dudes.

BN (34)

Next week we return to the Stargate schedule with the SG1 episode “Icon“.
As always many thanks for your support over the holiday period, our feedback and numbers have been very rewarding during a period when everyone has something else to do than to listen to podcasts and we hope to keep the community busy via the social media portals and apps so let us know what you think about any aspect of our show and maybe more importantly about Stargate itself.
