No one would argue that Aleks Paunovic is one “don’t-mess-with-me” vampire in Syfy’s new offering, Van Helsing. Per the network, the show “is set in the near future, where vampires have risen and taken control. Vanessa Van Helsing is humanity’s last hope, as her unique blood composition gives her the ability to turn vampires human. I caught up with the 11th season of Supernatural by watching the two recent episodes. The Vessel was an excellent piece of television, some great tension and the setting was perfection. Beyond The Mat went in a totally different direction with some lighter humour in it’s main plot albeit with an undercurrent of tragedy. It’s the latter episode which had Aleks Paunovic guest starring as Gunner Lawless an aging pro-wrestler on a circuit long past it’s prime and a body dropping in and around every town the show visits. A great role for Aleks and the third time he has appeared on the show, they know a good thing when they see it. Also news just in that Aleks will have a recurring role as Julius in the upcoming Van Helsing series.

I watched the latest episode of Psych this afternoon entitled “Cog Blocked” and it featured two former Stargate actors and a well known name from behind the camera of many a Stargate episode. This season eight episode was directed by Brad Turner who directed 14 episodes of SG1 and SGA before making a bigger splash with 24 and numerous television shows since then. The episode also featured Vincent Gale as Mr Grouse and Aleks Paunovic as the bartender both speaking roles and each making a significant contribution to the whole. We also got a brief appearance from Luvia Petersen who I wish had been on Stargate but well we couldn’t have everything:)

In the middle of nowhere during a cholera outbreak who should I see but Aleks Paunovic playing a disgruntled rail worker named Anton Hersch in the season 3 episode of Hell On Wheels “Cholera”. It wasn’t a large role but as Anton he certainly offered an imposing presence when facing down the shows lead character and anti-hero Cullen Bohannan.

Hell On Wheels has finished it’s third season on AMC in the US and is just beginning it’s UK run on TMC and has been renewed for a fourth season.

You’ll notice a few familiar Stargate faces in this latest movie “Feed The Gods” from director Braden Croft. I’ve backed the project and once again surprised I’ll commit to paying more for a smaller budget flick than I would a Blu-ray blockbuster.
