Spooksville is a new television series based on the novels of the same name written by Christopher Pike and brought to the small screen by writer Jim Krieg. You may ask why this is important to us and the answer is simple, Jacqueline Samuda who played Nirrti in Stargate SG1 will be appearing in the show as the character of Mrs Waverly and at least one other familiar face from Stargate will play a small part in the series.

The show premieres on Saturday the 26th of October on the HUB Network.

SG4 the Russian team return to the SGC with a native of the world they were investigating who claims that Nirrti is using his people in genetic experiments and his entire settlement is now empty and those still under her control are being victimised. Given that Jack and the SGC were behind the deal which allowed Nirrti to go free their own guilt triggers the next stage of the mission as SG1 and SG4 return with the task to remove Nirrti once and for all and if possible save the people of this planet.

Caution, explosives.

The existence of SG1 and it’s Russian personnel along with the own weaponry is a nice expansion to the SGC and the show in general, I’m not sure in the real world if it’s a great idea given the mindsets of the two nations but in this context it’s adds to the flavour to the show. The return of Nirrti via a story written by James Tichenor (VFX Supervisor) and Jacqueline Samuda (Nirrti) had to be done since she was a loose end and not part of the System Lord kabal under Anubis making her a wild card and as we move away from the traditional Goa’uld as the bad guys her fate had to be known.

Caution, very dangerous.

Metamorphosis has some good location work and Nirrti’s palace while limited to two sets looks pretty funky although the matt painting has it as an uber palace on top of a mountain. The prosthetic work for the natives is excellent, they really do look like they have been through the ringer and credit to Alex and Dion for performing under all the latex. To continue the costume theme the wardrobe department hit the nail on the head with Nirrti, lots of uplifted cleavage and leg worked to the extreme by Jacqueline and loved the Mrs Robinson homage.
Given what we know the episode once again proves that Jonas and of course Corin are well suited to the show, they have matured into the story and being different to Daniel/Michael that I believe makes them work.

Too late, we warned you.

Dr Fraisers adopted daughter the “alien” Cassandra is celebrating her birthday but has adapted to human female teen traits and wants to spend more time with her friends and her fella. That special kiss on the front porch however goes awry and she ends up unconscious along with exploding light bulbs, mighty fine kisser that boy will become. Anyhow back at the SGC the team explore the possibility that her planet holds the key and they do indeed find a mysterious and hidden lab in the forest which leads to a discovery that becomes a minor part of the mythology of the Goauld.

Ikea’s new range

It’s always tricky to have a teenager in this type of show and balance an interesting character with all the stereotypes you may expect from such a person and they just about pull it off. The big plus point for this episode is the callback of Cassie and her continued life with Janet so that strengthens the appeal of the Doctor as a series regular. The second benefit is to tie together another System Lords antics with the long term goals of the SGC which opens up more extensions to this storyline, always a good thing.

All in all Rite Of Passage is a fairly good episode, it lacks a little in the script department and has a lot of scenes which rely purely on the onscreen action (or even lack thereof) with just the soundtrack but it did go by quickly which speaks volumes.

That’s a big one!

The System Lords come a calling, well three of them and along with Thor they offer a deal to the SGC which will ensure the safety of the people of the Earth but for a price, perhaps too high a price. This episode was awash with good guest roles from the three Goauld (Yu, Nirrti and Cronus) along with SOD Simms.

More information on these characters can be found on the SG Wiki
