A very special happy birthday greeting to Teryl Rothery on the 9th of November as she celebrates her birth a day she shares with Gabrielle Miller.
Teryl played Dr Janet Fraiser in 75 episodes of Stargate SG1 and without a doubt become one of the most loved characters in the show despite not getting the same amount of screen time compared the main cast. Teryl has gone on to appear in Hellcats, Smallville, KyleXY and The Guard as well as a number of TV movies.

Many Happy Returns of the day to the American actor Robert Foxworth on the celebration of his birth (November 1st 1941).

He played Chairman Ashwan in the Stargate SG1 Season 6 episode Memento as well an often seen guest role on Star Trek DS9, Enterprise and Babylon5.
Way back when he was also the star and lead of the US soap Falcon Crest.  IMDB

A very happy birthday to David Ogden Stiers who only made three appearances in Stargate Atlantis playing the role of Oberoth  (Progeny, First Strike and Lifeline). However most of us will know him from his long running role of the pompous Major Charles Winchester in the even longer running M*A*S*H series and in between playing Reverend Purdy in The Dead Zone series.

We have five actors celebrating their birthdays on October 30th.

First up is Leon Rippy who has had a long and respected movie and tv career including recurring roles in Deadwood, Saving Grace, Leverage and Alcatraz. He played General West in the 1994 Stargate movie. IMDB

Michael Beach is celebrating as well, he has been in ER, Third Watch and Sons Of Anarchy and played Colonel Abe Ellis in Stargate Atlantis. IMDB

Daniel Bacon played Dr Watson in the Stargate Atlantis episode “Sunday” as well as nice spots on SG1 as a Gate Technician. IMDB

Peter New had a small role as a Farmer in the SG1 episode “Off The Grid”, he has also appeared in Fringe and Smallville. IMDB

It was Friday October 28th 1994 when an American/French scifi adventure movie co-production opened in the US, directed by Roland Emmerich and produced by Dean Devlin Stargate came to fruition.

An alien piece of technology is discovered in a dig site surrounding the Great Pyramid and the device is taken to the US under military control, decades of research lead nowhere until Daniel Jackson an author and archaeologist who believes the Egyptian culture had been influenced by alien life is brought on board. He solves the riddle of the device and with the Stargate activated a group of Airforce personnel along with Jackson travel to an alien world and discover a human culture enslaved by the ancient Sun God Ra complete with the Egyptian paraphernalia and pyramid spaceship.

As you would expect the team are at cross purposes, destroy the gate to prevent this Ra from returning to Earth now the portal has been opened or lead these people into a rebellion to throw down this despotic being who rules with fear and force.

The movie made a modest box office return in the US but it’s worldwide receipts were excellent pushing this $55 million movie into serious profit returning $196 million yet no sequel was on the horizon despite the goal of a movie trilogy. It wasn’t until a few years later when MGM who owned certain rights (distributed the feature alongside Canal+) were brought a project for a TV series based on the movie by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner, this series became Stargate SG1 and premièred on Showtime to both popular and critical acclaim and worldwide acceptance.

We have two very big name Stargate birthdays today (27th October) with Robert Picardo and Carmen Argenziano celebrating their births.

Carmen has played Jacob Carter/Selmak in 25 episodes of Stargate SG1 he has also appeared in Castle, Lie To Me, CSI New York and House. IMDB
Robert made his name on Voyager playing the holographic Doctor in a total of 170 episodes. He’s also guest starred seven times on SG1 and once on SGU and was a recurring character in 26 episodes of Atlantis. IMDB

Oh yes today we have an actor celebrating his birthday today (Oct 13th) who was a cornerstone of the franchise. Happy Birthday to Christopher Judge who played the strong and silent Teal’c in 211 episodes of SG1, Continuum and Ark of Truth as well as a guest spot on Atlantis. Another busy day for birthdays amongst the cast of the various Stargate shows.

Dion Johnstone who donned the prosthetics for many characters on SG1 has his birthday today (12th October), he brought to life some wonderful creations and would have appeared more on the show but he was in demand. IMDB

Brain J. Smith played Lt Matthew Scott on Stargate Universe and appeared in all 40 episodes. He had the lead in Red Factions:Origin as well as a recurring guest spot on Gossip Girl. IMDB
